The Town Hall of Mairena del Alcor has activated surveillance against the West Nile virus and intensified treatments in green areas ahead of Romería 2026, with recommendations for pilgrims.
The municipality of Mairena del Alcor is at a Medium Risk Level for the transmission of the West Nile virus. For this reason, the Town Hall has activated surveillance and control measures and has intensified treatment work in the green areas of the locality.
With Romería 2026 on the horizon, the council has disseminated a series of recommendations so that residents and visitors can enjoy the event in the countryside safely against mosquito bites.
The first measure is personal protection. It is advised to wear clothing that covers the skin, such as long sleeves, long trousers, and socks, especially in the evening. Precautions should also be heightened during dawn and dusk, which are the times of greatest mosquito activity.
Regarding repellents, the Town Hall requests the selection of authorised and registered products for domestic use, to follow the manufacturer's instructions, and to test them first on a small area of skin to ensure they do not cause reactions.
Additionally, sitting directly on the ground or in areas with abundant vegetation is discouraged, and it is recommended to avoid strong perfumes or soaps, as they may attract mosquitoes.
“Due to our municipality being at a Medium Risk Level for the transmission of the West Nile Virus, the Town Hall maintains activated surveillance and control measures and intensifies treatment work in green areas,” states the municipal announcement.
