The Casa de la Cultura in Lebrija will host the immersive performance of La Periférica Teatro's play ‘Make a Drum from My Skin’ on Saturday, September 19.
The City Council of Lebrija has presented the play ‘Make a Drum from My Skin’, by the company La Periférica Teatro, which will be performed on Saturday, September 19 at 21:00 hours in the Casa de la Cultura. The event was attended by the Culture delegate, Pepe Martínez, representatives of the company, and members of the Juan Bernabé Association.
The theatrical proposal has an immersive character and relies on documentary and narrative theatre to recover examples of artistic resistance in contexts of extreme violence. Through real experiences that have occurred in various parts of the world, the play invites reflection on the role of culture in the face of conflict and barbarism.
Among the episodes it addresses are the challenges faced by playwrights against the dictatorship of Videla in Argentina, Susan Sontag's accusation of the international community during the siege of Sarajevo in the Balkan war, and the current resistance of The Freedom Theatre in the refugee camp of Yenín, in northern West Bank.
The play also incorporates an episode particularly linked to Lebrija: the story of a theatre group of day labourers who challenged Francoism. Thus, the performance connects local memory with other international examples of resistance through artistic creation.
La Periférica Teatro constructs the narrative with only two actors and a table, using these elements to recreate a world situated in the midst of war and to reclaim the living memory of theatre as a tool to combat barbarism.
Tickets are priced at 8 euros, with a reduced rate of 5 euros, and will be available exclusively at the box office. Sales will begin on Monday, September 14 at the Casa de la Cultura, during the usual hours of this public facility.
