The City Council of Osuna has presented its annual awards to the Local Police on the occasion of the Day of the Patroness, the Virgin of Consolation. The event, presided over by the mayor, included the swearing-in of four new officers.
The City Council of Osuna celebrated this 8th of September the annual ceremony of awarding decorations and recognitions to the Local Police, on the day of their patroness, the Virgin of Consolation. The ceremony, which took place at the Hotel Palacio Marqués de la Gomera, was presided over by the mayor, Rosario Andújar, and was attended by the municipal delegate for Citizen Security and Traffic, Manuel Rodríguez, and the chief of the Local Police, José Pardo Álvarez.
During the event, several officers were recognised for their years of service and for particularly meritorious actions, and the swearing-in of four new officers was formalised. Members of the Municipal Corporation, representatives from the National Police, the Guardia Civil, and Civil Protection, as well as family members of the honorees and the newly incorporated officers, also attended.
In her speech, Rosario Andújar highlighted the “commitment to the safety of the town” and emphasised the “professionalism, training, and service vocation” of the force, which she defined as the closest to the citizens. The mayor stressed that this proximity allows officers to know the streets, the neighbourhoods, and the residents, which benefits both enforcement of infractions and prevention and guidance to the public throughout the year.
“Behind every uniform, there is a person who carries out a profession marked by responsibility, shifts, services during holidays and events, and, in many cases, personal and family sacrifices,” the mayor pointed out.
Andújar also referred to the responsibility of institutions to “care for those who care for us,” ensuring equipment, materials, and preventive measures so that officers can perform their work safely and with motivation. She extended her recognition to the families of the police officers for the support required by a profession marked by shifts and service calls.
The mayor took the opportunity to publicly welcome the chief of the Local Police, José Pardo Álvarez, who has been in the position for five months, and thanked him for his work. She also expressed her appreciation for Antonio Navarro, the former chief of the force, who recently retired and was absent for personal reasons, thanking him for his years of dedication.
Regarding the workforce, Rosario Andújar recalled that in the last ten years, around thirty officers have been incorporated through public calls, although she acknowledged the difficulties in compensating for retirements and absences. She reiterated the City Council's commitment to continue providing the Local Police with human and material resources.
For his part, the delegate for Citizen Security, Manuel Rodríguez, highlighted the special nature of the event due to the incorporation of the new chief and the four officers, who “come to reinforce a workforce that has experienced significant growth.” Rodríguez valued that, under the new leadership, “new ways of working are being implemented” and emphasised the importance of coordination between bodies to improve the response in terms of security.
