The mayor of Osuna, Rosario Andújar, and the regional director of Caja Rural del Sur, Marcos Rangel, have signed the document that formalises the granting of one hundred scholarships of 250 euros for students of the University School and the Higher Schools in the locality.
The signing of the grant document, held at the Osuna Town Hall, finalises a process that began in March with the signing of the agreement between the Francisco Maldonado Public Foundation for University Studies and Caja Rural del Sur. The total investment amounts to 25,000 euros, aimed at facilitating access to and retention in higher education.
A call with high demand
The first edition of these scholarships has received a massive response: 199 applications were submitted, of which 181 met the requirements. After evaluation, the one hundred planned grants have been awarded. The mayor, Rosario Andújar, described the response as “excellent” and highlighted that “the number of available scholarships has practically doubled.”
Of the one hundred beneficiaries, 19 are from Osuna and the rest come from municipalities in the region, reinforcing the regional character of the initiative. The regional director of Caja Rural del Sur, Marcos Rangel, emphasised that the entity “supports projects that promote training, rooting, and opportunities for young people.”
Commitment to equal opportunities
Rosario Andújar reminded that the Town Hall and the Foundation “continue to promote initiatives to support students,” complementing these scholarships with other aid for students with fewer resources. The Francisco Maldonado Foundation, according to the mayor, aims to “ensure that anyone can pursue higher education regardless of their economic, social, or employment circumstances.”
The managing director of the Osuna University School, Carlos Chavarría, explained that the scholarships have been awarded through competitive bidding, applying the criteria of the agreement. He expressed his satisfaction with the response and hoped that the programme would consolidate to “serve a greater number of students in the future.”
Payment procedure and next steps
The beneficiary students will receive an email notification in the coming days. Subsequently, they will be contacted by the offices of Caja Rural del Sur to complete the procedures and receive the payment of the aid. Marcos Rangel indicated that the entity “will continue to collaborate to ensure the continuity of the programme, with the intention of increasing the funding and the number of scholarships.”
With this signing, Osuna reinforces its role as a university reference in the centre of Andalusia, attracting students from across the community and, especially, from the region. The initiative represents an economic relief for families and a boost to equal opportunities in higher education.
