The mayor of Osuna, Rosario Andújar, chaired the first meeting of the Municipal Tourism Council, a consultative body aimed at advising the local government on tourism planning and promotion, which includes entrepreneurs, brotherhoods, and political groups.
The Osuna Town Council has launched the Municipal Tourism Council, a consultative and sectoral participation body that held its first meeting in the Plenary Hall, chaired by the mayor, Rosario Andújar, and attended by the municipal tourism delegate, Jesús Heredia, and representatives from various involved parties.
The council was established with the aim of advising municipal government bodies on planning, promotion, dynamisation, and management of tourism, as well as serving as a dialogue space between the Town Council and the sector. Its functions include proposing measures to improve competitiveness, sustainability, accessibility, digitalisation, and quality of the tourist destination, monitoring the Strategic Tourism Plan, evaluating campaigns and projects, as well as attracting funds and fostering collaboration between institutions and entities linked to tourism.
During the meeting, the mayor recalled the evolution of tourism in Osuna in recent years, highlighting the launch of the Tourist Innovation Centre as a milestone that marked a qualitative and quantitative leap. Since then, numerous projects and initiatives have been promoted that have positioned the municipality as a benchmark for quality and excellence in tourism.
Andújar emphasised the recognitions obtained, such as integration into the Network of Smart Tourist Destinations and the certification of the UNE 178501 standard, making Osuna the first municipality in the province of Seville to achieve this. "This Municipal Tourism Council is a key element for ensuring that all the actions and initiatives we are carrying out reach all economic sectors of our city," she stated.
The mayor stressed the importance of involving bars, restaurants, accommodations, shops, tourism companies, and artisans in Osuna's tourism strategy, with the aim of ensuring that everyone plays an active role in the project and that the effects of tourism have an economic impact on the municipality. In the first meeting, the main concerns and needs raised by sector representatives were heard, with the intention of incorporating them into the municipal roadmap.
Andújar also provided an overview of the actions taken under the Sustainable Tourism Plan for the Destination, indicating that more than twenty projects have already been executed within its four action axes. Furthermore, she announced that some initiatives are close to opening to the public, such as the crypt located in the Tourist Innovation Centre, which is in the final stages of preparation.
For his part, the municipal tourism delegate, Jesús Heredia, highlighted that the growth of tourism in Osuna necessitates greater involvement from all sectors linked to this activity. He explained that the council is composed of representatives from the business and hospitality sectors, the Local Council of Brotherhoods and Cofradias, the Art Board, political groups, and the Town Council itself.
Heredia reviewed some of the main projects currently underway, such as the actions of the Sustainable Tourism Plan for the Destination, with an investment of 2.7 million euros; the rehabilitation project of the Old University, funded by the 2% Cultural programme; and future initiatives planned for the Finca Las Turquillas with the Más Sevilla programme from the Provincial Council, aimed at promoting sports, nature, and outdoor tourism activities.
The Municipal Tourism Council will hold at least two meetings a year, with the next one scheduled for December. In this meeting, it is expected that the various members will contribute proposals that will help continue to drive the tourism development of Osuna through collaboration between the administration and the sector.
