The Historical Municipal Museum of Écija will host the First Conference on Banditry in Lower Andalusia on Saturday, October 17, coordinated by Francisco Fernández-Pro Ledesma and organized by the Tourism Department of the City Council.
The Historical Municipal Museum of Écija will be the venue on Saturday, October 17 for the First Conference on Banditry in Lower Andalusia, titled “Banditry: The Myth or the Reality”, which aims to analyse the historical dimension of the phenomenon. The organization is managed by the Tourism Department of the City Council of Écija, in collaboration with the museum itself and the coordination of Francisco Fernández-Pro Ledesma.
Registration is now open and will remain active until October 12. Interested parties can formalize their registration at the Historical Municipal Museum office. The day will combine academic presentations with a show and a gastronomic proposal, as informed by the organizers.
The programme will kick off at 09:30 hours with the reception of participants and the official inauguration by the authorities. At 10:05 hours, the professor of Sociology and official chronicler of Cantillana, Antonio García Benítez, will open the series of lectures with the presentation “The Individual Reality of Andalusian Banditry. Analysis of a Model”.
After a breakfast break at 10:55 hours, historian and chronicler of Alameda, José Antonio Rodríguez Martín, will speak on “Andalusian Banditry. Regarding José María El Tempranillo”. During this same event, the Proceedings of the X Conference on Banditry in Andalusia, edited by the City Council of Alameda, will be presented.
The afternoon session will begin at 18:00 hours with researcher and writer Carlos Olavarrieta Jurado, who will delve into the “True and Real History of the Gang Known as Los Niños de Écija”. Following this, the professor of Philology and researcher at the University of Granada, María Antonia López-Burgos del Barrio, will give the lecture “Andalusian Banditry in the Books of English and North American Travellers of the 19th Century”.
The conference will conclude at 20:30 hours with the closing ceremony and a final musical performance. The invited artist or group for this closing is yet to be confirmed, according to the organization.
