The Town Hall of Tomares has started this Monday an adulticide treatment in 25 parks in the municipality to prevent the Nile virus. The treated areas will remain closed for 24 hours.
The Town Hall of Tomares has launched since this Monday, 7 September, a prevention campaign against the Nile virus mosquito that will last until Wednesday, 9 September. The work consists of applying an adulticide treatment in the 25 public parks of the municipality, distributed over the three days.
The Environmental Department of the council is responsible for coordinating these actions, which are carried out once a month. Each treated park will remain closed for 24 hours to ensure the safety of residents.
This measure is in addition to another biweekly campaign that takes place in the street drains, where a larvicide is applied to prevent common mosquito larvae from becoming adults.
The schedule for this Monday includes the parks Alto Aljarafe, Diamantino García, Montefuerte, Multicultural, Plácido Fernández Viaga, Tren de Cala, de la Música, San Antón, Santa Eufemia, and Joaquín Ruiz Jiménez.
For Tuesday, 8 September, actions are planned in the parks Camino Viejo, del Carmen, Jardines del Conde, San Sebastián, Félix Rodríguez de la Fuente, La Cartuja, Pintor Pedro Escacena, and Concepción Arenal.
On Wednesday, 9 September, the work will focus on the parks Americano, Camino del Rocío, Menudos Corazones, Olivar del Zaudín, and the path of Calle Triana.
In addition to these treatments, the Town Hall reminds that at the beginning of summer it launched an informative campaign to explain to residents how the virus is transmitted and how to avoid bites. The council insists that, although it takes care of public spaces, actions in each home are also key.
Among the recommendations for citizens are to use mosquito repellent, avoid going outdoors at dawn and dusk, wear light-coloured long-sleeved clothing, empty stagnant water from pots and birdbaths, and place mosquito nets on doors and windows.
