28 locals participated in the gastronomic event of the Tomares Fair 2026. Francisco Javier Surinach took home the first prize with his serranito de presa rice.

The XII Rice Competition of the Tomares Fair has its winners. Francisco Javier Surinach won the first prize thanks to his Serranito de Presa Rice, in an edition that set a participation record with 28 locals registered.

The competition took place on Friday, September 4 at the Municipal Pavilion, where attendees could taste the submitted rice dishes for free. The jury found it difficult to decide among so many proposals, according to municipal sources.

The mayor of Tomares, José María Soriano, was responsible for presenting the awards. He was accompanied by the councillor for Major Festivals, Culture, Citizen Participation, Social Welfare, Equality, Family and Women, Magdalena Ybarra, and the delegate for Major Festivals and Traditions, María Toledo.

The second prize, worth 200 euros, went to Gonzalo Viota Garrido for his Octopus and Clams Rice. The third prize, worth 100 euros, was awarded to Carolina Cubero Couto for her Secret and Boletus Rice.

Additionally, the competition included the award for the Best Decorated Pavilion. The first prize went to Los Niñitos, the second to Puerta Príncipe, and the third to Los Sitos.

The day coincided with the main day of the Tomares Fair, which, as is tradition, was a public holiday in the municipality so that locals could enjoy one of their most anticipated events of the year.
