The Mairena del Aljarafe Town Hall has activated a contract worth 2.05 million euros to strengthen the gardening service. Twelve professionals and new machinery will be added to improve parks and green areas.
The Town Hall of Mairena del Aljarafe has launched the reinforcement of the municipal gardening service after formalising a new support contract, framed within the Mairena Al Día plan. The agreement, endowed with 2.05 million euros for a period of four years (two of which are extensions), will expand the human and material resources for the maintenance of parks, gardens, and green areas throughout the municipality.
The mayor, Antonio Conde, has pointed out that gardening was "one of the problems that concerned me the most" and that since 2023 efforts have been made to update the service. "This expansion represents an investment of over two million euros to have more resources, more staff, and more machinery, making Mairena a more pleasant city," he added.
The new contract incorporates 12 professionals (11 workers and one reinforcement for campaigns) who will join the municipal service. New material resources will also be added: 3 hedge trimmers, 6 blowers, 6 brush cutters, 2 lawn mowers, a mowing tractor, a wheelbarrow for phytosanitary treatments, 3 chainsaws, 2 backpacks for phytosanitary treatments, and tools for four work brigades.
The contract also includes a tipping truck, a van, a minibus with a trailer, and, depending on the needs of each operation, a multilift team, a bucket truck, and a tank truck. This will allow for quicker responses to the conservation work of green areas.
With this expansion, the complete gardening service (municipal staff and that of the new contract) will reach a total investment of 2.6 million euros per year and will have nearly 40 professionals. The total machinery will include 15 hedge trimmers, 25 brush cutters, 18 blowers, 16 chainsaws, 10 pole saws, 5 lawn mowers, a mowing tractor, 2 tillers, 2 zero-turn mowers, 5 teams for phytosanitary treatments, a shredder, and tools for five brigades.
This action is part of Mairena Al Día, a municipal plan with an investment of 11.3 million euros to modernise six essential services: gardening, pavements, lighting, tree pits, painting of CEIPs, and the Citizen Services fleet. The mayor has acknowledged that these "basic services were becoming inadequate" and are "key to the quality of life of the residents," which is why the local government is deploying this modernisation "from that self-demanding perspective."
The implementation of the plan is the result of work initiated in 2023, following the renewal of the street cleaning service. Residents will notice improvements in the maintenance of parks and gardens, with larger and better-equipped brigades to respond quickly to the needs of each area.
