The El Tronío theatre hosted the opening of the first Cultural Week of Egypt in Gines, organised with the Egyptian Institute. The day included a videoconference by Dr. Abdelrahman Fahmy and a hieroglyphic writing workshop.
The first edition of the Cultural Week of Egypt in Gines kicked off this Monday with a programme that will run until Friday 25 April. The El Tronío theatre was the chosen venue for the inaugural session, which combined an institutional presentation with a telematic conference and a practical workshop on pharaonic writing.
The event is organised by the Cultural Delegation of the Gines City Council alongside the Egyptian Institute and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Egypt. During the opening, the institute's representatives thanked the council for their hospitality and emphasised that the aim is to provide residents with a broad view of Egyptian culture, both ancient and contemporary.
The municipal delegate for Culture, Virginia Montiel, received a gift from the cultural office of the Egyptian embassy as a token of gratitude. Montiel highlighted Gines' open character and its willingness to engage with other cultures as a means of mutual enrichment.

After the welcome, Dr. Abdelrahman Fahmy, a specialist linked to the University of Cairo, the University of Cádiz, and the National Museums of Berlin, delivered a videoconference. The day continued in the afternoon at the Active Participation Centre with a hieroglyphic writing workshop.
The programme continues this Tuesday 22 April with poetry and gastronomy as its main themes. At 10:30 am, the Active Participation Centre will host the activity “Poetry in Arab Culture,” focused on reading poems by Salah Abdel Sabur. At 12:00 pm, it will be time for “Egyptian Cuisine,” a meeting that will review the country’s culinary history, prepare a typical dish live, and conclude with a tasting for attendees.
On Wednesday 23, the focus will return to the El Tronío theatre from 10:30 am for a day dedicated to cinema. A documentary on the history of Egyptian cinema will be screened, along with a subtitled original version film.
On Thursday 24, activities will begin at 10:00 am at El Tronío with a literary conference on the playwright Tawfik al Hakim, led by Dr. Saad Mohamed Saad (Pablo de Olavide University). At 11:15 am, a documentary on Egyptian music will be shown.
The closing will take place on Friday 25 at the Active Participation Centre. The morning will start with a session on the Arabic language taught from the Egyptian Institute's headquarters in Madrid. At 11:00 am, Dr. Hazem Eid (University of Cairo) will conclude the programme with the lecture “The Common Features of Arabic and Spanish,” an analysis of the philological and historical links between both languages.
