The Patron Saint Festivities in honour of Santiago Apostle, the patron of Castilleja de la Cuesta since 1370, will take place from July 15 to 25 with ten days of religious events, concerts, and traditions. The programme will kick off on Monday, July 15, with the Grand Evening of Santiago Apostle, organised by the Sacramental Brotherhood of Santiago Apostle, and will culminate on Thursday, July 25, with the procession of the patron through the streets of the municipality.
Grand Evening with five nights of music and festive atmosphere
The Grand Evening will take place from July 15 to 19 in the main square of Castilleja de la Cuesta, which will become the epicentre of festive activity. Over five consecutive nights, attendees will be able to enjoy musical performances from artists such as Inma León, Miguel Fernández, and Luisi Coplera (July 15); Vicente Bernal (16); La Banda del Pelícano and Al Son (17); La Trupe and Agustele (18); and Álvaro Carrillo (19).
The venue will feature daily services including a bar and a tombola, allowing locals and visitors to enjoy a playful and festive atmosphere. The evening is one of the most anticipated events of the summer in the town, and this year promises to gather hundreds of people around music and camaraderie.
Solemn Triduum and transfers of images due to parish works
The religious programme will continue from July 22 to 24 with the Solemn Sacramental Triduum in honour of Santiago Apostle, which will be held at the parish starting at 8:30 PM. Each day will include the exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, the praying of the Holy Rosary, and the Eucharist, presided over by the parish priest Alfonso José Filiberto del Castillo.
Due to the rehabilitation works of the Parish Church of Santiago Apostle, various transfers of images will take place during these days to the Brotherhood House of Our Lady of Solitude. As a prelude to the festivities, on July 24, the traditional 'Vuelta' will take place, accompanied by the Band of Cornets and Drums of the Most Holy Christ of Remedies.
July 25: the great day of the patron with rosary, function, and procession
On July 25, the feast day of Santiago Apostle, the day will begin at midnight with the Holy Rosary, presided over by the Simpecado of Our Lady of Solitude, accompanied by the choirs of the brotherhood and the Santa Ana Music Band of Dos Hermanas. In the afternoon, at 8:30 PM, the Main Function in honour of the patron will be celebrated, and subsequently, the processional departure of Santiago Apostle will take place.
The image will tour the streets of the municipality accompanied by the Band of Cornets and Drums of the Most Holy Christ of Remedies, bringing to a close ten days of celebrations. Locals will be able to follow the route from the sidewalks and balconies, in a tradition that repeats year after year and reinforces the bond of the town with its patron.
