The crime rate in Castilleja de la Cuesta remains at 17.36%, a figure that consolidates the municipality as one of the safest in Andalusia, far below the regional average (40.5%) and the provincial average (41.3%). This was highlighted in the Local Security Board meeting chaired by the mayor, Carmen Herrera, to coordinate the operation for the 2026 Fair, which will take place from 17 to 20 September.
During the meeting, a decrease of between 6% and 7% in the absolute number of crimes committed in the municipality was also noted, a trend that the City Council attributes to a comprehensive security strategy. Alongside the mayor were the delegate for Citizen Security, Francisco Cordón; the chief of the Local Police, Miguel Ángel Hidalgo; representatives from the Guardia Civil and the National Police, as well as officer Francisco Javier Vilches.
In preparation for the Fair, collaboration between forces will be strengthened with 24-hour Local Police presence at the fairgrounds, with static posts and patrols. There will be support from SEPRONA for food inspections in the early days, security checks at entrances and surrounding areas, and reinforcement of surveillance by the GOIP Special Intervention Unit alongside Guardia Civil units, especially during night hours.
Volunteers from Civil Protection and a health service will also be present. A Purple Point will be set up for the attention and prevention of gender violence, and identification bracelets for minors will be distributed, a common measure to prevent losses during the festivities.
The City Council emphasizes that these results are supported by the addition of three new officers to the Local Police force and an open selection process to continue expanding personnel. Furthermore, the installation of surveillance cameras in public spaces is being promoted as a complementary tool for prevention.
Renewal and improvement of police materials and resources is another line of action, aimed at ensuring that officers have the necessary resources. The City Council highlights that these measures are part of a strategy based on three pillars: increasing personnel, new technologies, and improving material resources.
Residents will notice an increase in security during the Fair, with more intense surveillance at night and checks at entrances. The operation will be complemented by health care and resources for the prevention of sexist assaults.
