The traditional Velá de Santa Ana kicks off this Tuesday, July 21, in the Triana neighbourhood, with six days of festivities, 28 booths, and free concerts in the Altozano square.
The Triana neighbourhood is getting ready from this Tuesday, July 21, to host a new edition of its Velá de Santa Ana, which will last until July 26. This event, one of the most anticipated of the Seville summer, begins with the traditional Alumbrao and the opening speech by the Triana historian José Pozuelo, who will launch six days of music, gastronomy, and activities for all audiences.
Betis street and the Altozano square will once again be the epicentre of the celebration, which this year features a varied musical programme. The concerts, which will start each night at 22:00 hours, include names such as Luitingo, Cantores de Híspalis, a flamenco festival dedicated to the Nano de Jerez, and the gala Mujeres Trianeras, featuring Silvia Pantoja and Rocío Díaz, among other artists.
28 booths for all tastes
Along Betis street, from the Altozano square to the Cuba square, 28 booths managed by brotherhoods, cultural entities, sports clubs, and political parties will be distributed. Among them, the booths of brotherhoods such as Esperanza de Triana, La O, La Estrella, or El Cachorro stand out, as well as football fan clubs and neighbourhood associations. The gastronomic and leisure offerings promise to satisfy all attendees, with a festive atmosphere that extends into the early hours of the morning.
The Seville City Council has established closing times for the venue: the booths can remain open until 04:00 hours on the nights of Thursday 23, Friday 24, and Saturday 25, although music must cease by 03:30 hours. On other days, closing will be at 03:00 hours. The hospitality establishments in the area will also be able to take advantage of this extended schedule, which will help boost the economic activity of the neighbourhood.
Traditional activities and competitions
The Velá programme includes classic events such as the beer pullers' competition, sponsored by Cruzcampo, which will take place on Thursday, July 23, and will award the best tavern keeper of the year. On the same day, at 20:30 hours, the award for the best-rated booth in the 'Paseo de la O' will be presented.
From July 22 to 26, from 18:00 to 21:00 hours, the more daring can participate in the traditional cucaña on the Betis street zapata, an activity that attracts a large audience every year. The grand finale will arrive on Sunday, July 26, Santa Ana's day, with a fireworks display and a performance by the group Los Alpresa, which will conclude an edition that promises to be unforgettable.
For the residents of Triana and the rest of Seville, the Velá is much more than a festival: it is an opportunity to gather, enjoy local culture, and revive traditions that date back centuries. The organisation recommends arriving early to avoid crowds and enjoy a safe and family-friendly atmosphere.
