Seville City Council has completed the comprehensive improvement of the pavement on Castilla Street in Triana, with an investment exceeding €200,000. Traffic will remain closed until October 2 to allow the new Gerena cobblestones to set properly.
Castilla Street, one of the main arteries of the Triana neighbourhood, will once again allow vehicles from October 2. Until then, Seville City Council maintains the closure to vehicular traffic to ensure the new pavement sets and achieves the necessary stability. When reopened, the street will regain its original configuration and directions.
The works, carried out by the Urban Planning department, have completely renewed the Gerena cobblestones along the entire length of the street. The intervention addresses a pavement that had not seen any work for decades and was showing significant deterioration. The municipal investment has exceeded €200,000.
The district delegate for Triana, Manuel Alés, has checked the final result of the works. He explained that the street had been suffering from a deteriorated pavement for years, posing a risk to pedestrians and vehicles and affecting the image of one of the most characterful streets in the neighbourhood.

Alés also pointed out that the intervention responds to a long-standing demand from residents. In his statements, he emphasised that the street regains the dignity it deserves, which residents have been requesting for years.
Along with the cobblestones, the project has replaced the old round concrete tree pits, heavily worn by time, with new granite tree pits. This more durable material fits with the historical environment of the street. The measure is part of the municipal plan for renewing pavements in streets with historical cobblestones, aiming to preserve them and adapt them to current standards of accessibility and safety.
The improvement of the roadway to enhance traffic safety and provide a more polished image of the city is one of the commitments of the municipal government led by José Luis Sanz. Residents of Triana and those who pass through Castilla daily will have to wait until October 2 to regain normal traffic flow in the area.
