The centenary Velá de Santa Ana returns to Triana from July 21 to 26 with a programme that includes sports, culture, and concerts. Cantores de Híspalis, Luitingo, and the proclamation by Jesús Pozuelo are among the highlights.
Triana is preparing to experience one of its most intense weeks of the year. The Velá de Santa Ana, the traditional 'summer fair' of the capital of Seville, officially kicks off on July 21 and will run until July 26 with a programme that combines sports, culture, music, and devotion. This event, which has its roots in the 13th century, promises to combat the high temperatures with entertainment for all audiences.
Sports and Proclamation to Open the Festival on July 21
The first day of the velá starts with a bang at 10:00 am with a dominoes game in the Góngora square, organised by the San Joaquín Association. In the afternoon, sports take over: from 18:00 to 22:30, there will be a beach handball tournament in the under-12, under-14, and under-16 female categories. Additionally, from 20:00 to 23:00, there will be walking football for women at the Vega de Triana Sports Centre and futsal at the Antonio Álvarez Gordón Sports Centre.
The highlight of the day will come at 22:00 with the proclamation of the Velá, which this year will be given by Jesús Pozuelo. The event, marking the official start of the celebrations, will gather locals and visitors in a festive atmosphere.
Night Regatta and Luitingo Concert on July 22
On Wednesday, July 22, the sports activities will repeat with walking football for men and futsal from 20:00 to 23:00, along with a men's padel match at the Antonio Álvarez Gordón Sports Centre. However, the main event of the day is the Night Regatta of Triana, which will sail on the Guadalquivir River at 21:30, a visual spectacle that attracts hundreds of people to the riverbanks each year.
Culture also has its place: at 21:00, the Mercado de Triana will host the event 'Triana in Painting; Painting in Triana', led by José Fernández López, a professor at the University of Seville. To close the night, at 22:00, Luitingo will perform, in collaboration with Charro de Triana, in a concert that promises rhythm and a great atmosphere.
Cantores de Híspalis Celebrates Its 50th Anniversary on July 23
On Thursday, July 23, sports continue to take centre stage with a veterans' football 11 match at the Vega de Triana Sports Centre, along with futsal and men's padel at the Antonio Álvarez Gordón Sports Centre, all from 20:00 to 23:00. At 20:30, the Social Running event will start from Altozano for running enthusiasts.
But the main attraction will arrive at 22:00: the concert by Cantores de Híspalis, celebrating their 50th anniversary on the velá stage. A group that has marked the soundtrack of several generations and promises a review of their greatest hits. Before that, at 21:00, the Mercado de Triana will host the conference 'Architecture and Regionalism in Triana', with Pedro M. Martínez Lara, a professor at the University of Seville.
Salon Bullfighting and Pickleball on July 24
Friday, July 24, kicks off with a salon bullfighting exhibition at 10:00 in the pedestrian area of San Jacinto, organised by the Tomás Campuzano Bullfighting School. In the afternoon, from 19:00 to 21:00, the Triana bridge will become a Pickleball court, a racket sport that is gaining popularity.
At 21:00, the Mercado de Triana will host the conference 'Aníbal González and Triana', presented by Aníbal González Serrano, a doctor, professor at the University of Seville, and grandson of the famous architect Aníbal González Álvarez-Ossorio, an expert on his work. An opportunity to learn more about the legacy of the architect of Plaza de España.
Triana Women Take the Stage on July 25
On Saturday, July 25, the velá approaches its final stretch with a very special concert: Triana Women, at 22:00, featuring performances by Silvia Pantoja, Rocío Díaz, la Flaka, and Pilar Astola, presented by Isabel Fayos. A night dedicated to the female talent of the neighbourhood, sure to delight attendees.
Fishing Competition and Closing Gala on July 26
On Sunday, July 26, the velá bids farewell in style. At 8:30, the Paseo de la O will host the traditional fishing competition (lottery for spots at 7:00). And at 22:00, the awards gala will provide the grand finale, with fireworks and a musical performance. The Seville City Council will take the opportunity to award personalities and institutions linked to Triana, in an event that closes six days of celebration.
