The Peña Flamenca Manuel de Paula of Estepa has celebrated a new edition of its Flamenco Polvorón festival, where the Lebrija singer José Valencia received the Polvorón de Oro award.
The Sevillian municipality of Estepa has hosted a new edition of its traditional flamenco festival, the Flamenco Polvorón, which reaches its XXXVIII anniversary. The event, organised by the Peña Flamenca Manuel de Paula, once again brought together fans and artists around singing and guitar playing on a night that the organisation described as special.
The event was attended by the town's mayor, Antonio Jesús Muñoz, and the councillor for Culture, Ascen Castillo, who shared a few words with the attendees to highlight the culture and flamenco in the municipality. The organisation was led by the president of the peña, Armando Mateos.
The central moment of the evening was the presentation of the Polvorón de Oro award, which this year went to the singer from Lebrija, José Valencia. On stage, alongside authorities and executives, was also the singer Manuel de Paula, head of the Estepa peña and uncle of the honouree.
The artistic lineup for this edition included José Valencia, Felipa del Moreno, Manuel de la Tomasa, and Niño de Peñaflor for singing; Juan Requena, Manuel Valencia, Luis Medina, and Morilito on guitar; Juan Diego and Manuel Valencia on clapping; and Lucía Benavides and her group for dancing. The presentation was handled by Laura Caballero.
The festival was made possible thanks to the sponsorship of the Provincial Council of Seville, the IGP Mantecados and Polvorones de Estepa, Oleoestepa, the D.O.P. Estepa, and Bodegas Blanco “El Bodegón”.
The organisation expressed gratitude to all those who attended during the night and has already set its sights on the next edition of a competition that has established itself as one of the key flamenco events in the Sierra Sur of Seville region.
