The City Council of Seville will allocate €6.1 million to provide 20 MW of electrical power to TUSSAM's facilities on Avenida de Andalucía, a key step for the electrification of the fleet and the decarbonisation of public transport.
The City Council of Seville has announced an investment of €6.1 million to equip TUSSAM's depots on Avenida de Andalucía with an electrical power capacity of 20 megawatts (MW). The project, which will be developed in several phases, will allow for the continued incorporation of electric buses and progress towards a more sustainable public transport model.
A key infrastructure for decarbonisation
The Mobility delegate and president of TUSSAM, Álvaro Pimentel, explained that the availability of electrical power is one of the main challenges for the development of industrial and service projects in Spain. “With this action, we will achieve a milestone by ensuring access to an essential energy infrastructure to continue modernising the company over the coming decades,” he stated.
The plan includes drafting the project, adapting the distribution network, and constructing new infrastructures, such as the expansion of the Santa Elvira substation and a new private electrical line. These works are essential to supply the fleet of electric buses that TUSSAM plans to incorporate progressively.
172 new buses and record number of passengers
Pimentel recalled that the mayor, José Luis Sanz, has set the goal of renewing TUSSAM's fleet, the largest in recent decades. Between 2023 and 2027, over €52 million will be invested in the acquisition of 172 new buses, a significant portion of which will be electric.
The delegate highlighted that the people of Seville are noticing the improvement in service, with historic user figures. In the first half of 2026, TUSSAM reached 48.5 million passengers, the highest figure in 22 years, thanks to the incorporation of new lines and high levels of punctuality and regularity.
A strategic step for sustainable mobility
“Sustainable mobility does not solely depend on acquiring new electric buses. It requires anticipating and ensuring that the energy infrastructure is prepared to meet future needs,” Pimentel emphasised. The achievement of these 20 MW of power places TUSSAM in a favourable position to lead the transformation of public transport in Seville.
For the residents of the capital, this investment will translate into a cleaner and more efficient service, with lower emissions and a greater capacity to respond to demand. The works, which will be carried out in the coming months, will not affect the usual bus service, according to municipal sources.
The project represents a firm step towards the total electrification of the fleet, a goal that the City Council hopes to achieve in the next decade, in line with the city's climate commitments.
