The City Council of Seville has presented the programming of the Turina Space for the 2026/2027 season, which includes nearly 130 activities and a new chamber music competition. The season kicked off on 11 September and will run until 10 June 2027.
The Turina Space in Seville has finalised its programming for the 2026/2027 season. The City Council of Seville, through the Tourism and Culture Department, presented a calendar on Tuesday that will extend until 10 June 2027 and will feature around 130 activities including concerts, cycles, and workshops.
The venue, located on Laraña Street, continues its commitment to combining local projects with national and international proposals. The programming began on 11 September with the guitar cycle of the XXIV Biennial Flamenco of Seville, which until the 27 turns the Turina into one of the stages of the event. Guitarists such as Antonio Rey, who presents in the city the album with which he won his second Latin Grammy, along with Canito, Raúl Rodríguez, José Fermín Fernández, Juan Requena, María Marín, Manuel de la Luz, Manuel Imán, and Diego del Morao will perform there.
One of the main innovations of the season is the inclusion of the Seville European Film Festival, which from 6 to 14 November will use the space as one of its main venues. Titles from the Official Section and Special Screenings will be screened there, and areas will be set up for press activities and accredited professionals.
The City Council also adds its own initiative: the I Joaquín Turina Chamber Music and Soloist Competition, framed within the Turina Route to promote the study and dissemination of the chamber music legacy of the Sevillian composer. The final will be held on 23 and 24 October and will distribute six prizes among the selected groups and soloists, in addition to the award for the best interpretation of a work by Turina and the prize for soloists or duos awarded by Juventudes Musicales de Sevilla.
"With the Joaquín Turina Competition, we take a step that goes beyond programming; we create our own competition, with an international vocation, that puts the legacy of one of our composers on the map and reinforces Seville's role as a City of Music recognised by UNESCO," declares the delegate for Tourism and Culture, Angie Moreno.
The Turina reaffirms its role as a venue for classic events in the Seville musical calendar. The Seville Early Music Festival (FeMÀS) maintains its main stage here; the Seville Guitar Festival returns with a programme that combines flamenco tradition and classical repertoire. In the 150th anniversary of the birth of Manuel de Falla, this cycle will include the absolute premiere of Invocación a Falla, a work written by José Antonio Rodríguez for the Andalusian Guitar Quartet as a tribute to the Cadiz composer.
The Seville Baroque Orchestra consolidates its status as a resident ensemble, and the Bética Chamber Orchestra presents its complete programme once again. They are joined by the Baroque Autumn, co-produced with the Friends of the OBS Association; the contemporary creation festivals of Zahir Ensemble and Taller Sonoro; the Sevillana Zarzuela Company; the Jazz & Clubs cycle of Assejazz, which will fill the autumn and winter Thursdays with rhythm; the Sunday chamber music cycle of the Royal Symphony Orchestra of Seville; and musical workshops for the youngest from the Barenboim-Said Foundation.
The Councillor for Tourism and Culture explained that the new season "expands its scope and strengthens its identity as a place open to creation, heritage, and artistic expressions that engage with music."
The space's own programming is organised around major chamber and vocal repertoires. The string quartet cycle reaches this year six dates, with the return of the two leading Spanish ensembles, Casals and Quiroga, and the Attacca Quartet, along with the debut in Seville of three international formations: the Quartetto Maurice, the Bennewitz Quartet, and the Quatuor Danel.
The lied will have a prominent presence thanks to the recitals of Anna-Lena Elbert, Natalia Labourdette, Nuria Rial, Julian Prégardien, José Antonio López, and Anna Lucia Richter. Early music will bring together up to fourteen national and international formations, including the return of Près de votre oreille and the harpsichordist Jean Rondeau, along with the debut of the countertenor Tim Mead and ensembles such as Ricercar Consort, A Nocte Temporis, and El Afecto Ilustrado.
The piano cycle maintains its seven dates, with a new recital by Juan Floristán and the debut of Piotr Alexewicz, a young Polish pianist recently awarded at the Chopin Competition in Warsaw. The programme is completed with two premieres from the DxM (Drama through Music) cycle, in collaboration with Proyecto Ocnos alongside El Niño de Elche, and the Sevillian composer Daahoud Salim with Taller Sonoro, as well as a transversal cycle dedicated to the Generation of '27.
The season is supported by a policy of accessible prices, with subscriptions for the main cycles and a 20% discount for groups such as young people, seniors over 65 years, unemployed individuals, large families, or performing arts professionals, among others. There are also specific conditions for groups, musical associations, and people with reduced mobility.
The Turina Space also launches its own website where the public can consult the complete and updated programme of each show and download the brochure for the 2026/2027 season. Information will be available at sevilla.org/espacio-turina.
