The avenue of Llanes recovers 20 parking spaces after 18 years without them

The City Council of Seville is enabling two stretches of parking along the curb between Miraflores and Santa María de las Rocinas, with an investment of €45,000 and a timeframe of two months.

The City Council of Seville has initiated the recovery of around twenty parking spaces on the avenue of Llanes, in the Macarena district, which were removed 18 years ago. The project, carried out by the Urban Planning Management, takes place between the avenue of Miraflores and Santa María de las Rocinas street, and aims to alleviate parking pressure in a densely populated area.

Specifically, two stretches of curbside parking will be enabled, measuring 42 and 44 meters in length respectively, in addition to a third stretch on the opposite sidewalk, in the space previously occupied by a bus stop that was moved a few months ago. The project has an investment of €45,000 and a execution period of two months.

A community demand of nearly two decades

The mayor of Seville, José Luis Sanz, has highlighted that

“with this action we are returning to the residents of Macarena a parking facility they have been requesting for almost two decades.”

Sanz added that the recovery of these spaces represents a direct improvement in the mobility of the neighbourhood and, therefore, in the quality of life of the residents.

The lack of parking in Macarena has been a chronic problem, exacerbated by the narrowness of many streets and the high density of housing. The new parking area adds to other actions in the district, such as the redevelopment of Artesanos Peluqueros street, with an investment of €461,000, which includes improvements to pedestrian access, roadway, drainage, and lighting.

One million euros in works in the area

Additionally, the City Council has completed the resurfacing of the avenue of Pino Montano, in its stretch of the Macarena district, a road nearly 700 meters long that has received top-quality pavement after five days of work and an investment of over €140,000. This avenue had not seen significant interventions in decades.

In the past year, the actions in the area total an investment of around one million euros, also including the redevelopment of Doctor Antonio Herrera Carmona street in La Carrasca, the Blanca Paloma square, the Camino de Cantalobos in the Los Príncipes neighbourhood, and improvements in Madreselva, Fedra, Estanislao del Campo López, Gáspar de Alvear, Bermúdez Plata, and Martínez Sierra, among others.

For the residents of Macarena, the recovery of these parking spaces represents a tangible relief in their daily lives, especially for those who rely on their cars to commute to work or run errands. The works, which have already begun, will be completed within two months, allowing drivers to enjoy the new spaces before the end of summer.
