Aena auctions an abandoned PIPER PA-23 Apache plane at Sevilla airport with a starting price of 10 euros. The aircraft, with registration EC-GKA, has gone unclaimed for months.
Sevilla airport has put up for sale a plane that has been abandoned on its premises for months. The starting price is just 10 euros, although to participate in the auction, a deposit of 50 cents is required. This is published in the Official State Bulletin (BOE), which includes Aena's announcement.
The aircraft in question is a PIPER PA-23 151/160 Apache, a light twin-engine plane manufactured in the United States, capable of carrying between four and six passengers. Its registration is EC-GKA and, according to airport sources, no one has claimed it since it appeared on the Sevilla runway.
A usual administrative procedure
Before reaching the auction, Aena had to complete a legal process to settle the debts accumulated by the aircraft in terms of parking and fees. As there was no response from the registered owner, the airport manager declared the vehicle abandoned. This is a common procedure at airfields where vehicles appear whose owners do not respond to payment requests or remove them after months of inactivity.
For the residents of Sevilla, this auction presents a curious opportunity: for the price of a coffee, anyone can bid for a plane. However, the buyer will have to bear the removal costs and any future fees, as well as comply with the bidding requirements.
What happens if there is no buyer
If the plane does not find a buyer, alternatives include selling it to a company specialised in scrap and recycling of aeronautical materials. Another option, as Aena considers, is donating it to educational institutions or aviation museums, which can use these aircraft for educational or exhibition purposes.
For now, the process continues. Interested parties must request the technical and specific conditions document by writing to svq.economico.compras@aena.es. The opening of bids will take place at the Sevilla airfield itself, on a date that will be formally notified to the bidders.
