Seville City Council, through the Urban Planning Department, begins on Tuesday, September 22, the resurfacing of six streets in the Santa María de Ordás neighbourhood, in the Macarena District, which had not seen any intervention for decades. The work will last until October 2 and will involve total traffic closures on the affected roads.
The Urban Planning Department of Seville City Council has scheduled for next Tuesday, September 22 the start of resurfacing works on six streets in the Santa María de Ordás neighbourhood, in the Macarena District. These are roads that have accumulated decades without any type of intervention and whose renewal has been demanded by the local residents.
The streets included in this action are Santa María de Ordás, Amalia Torrijos, Virgen de la Guía, Orfebre Seco Velasco, Santa María de los Reyes, and Santa María de la Hiedra. The work will be carried out from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM and will conclude on October 2.
The schedule planned by the Urban Planning Department staggers the tasks by street. In Santa María de Ordás, the work will start on September 22 and will extend until the 29th. In Amalia Torrijos, it will begin on September 23 and conclude on the 30th. The streets Virgen de la Guía and Orfebre Seco Velasco will be addressed between September 24 and October 1, while Santa María de los Reyes and Santa María de la Hiedra will be reserved for the final phase, from September 28 to October 2.
During the execution of the works, it will be necessary to completely close the affected streets. The City Council will implement alternative traffic plans for residents, who should pay attention to the provisional signage installed in the area.
"We continue to advance in the resurfacing of streets in all districts of the city, and specifically in Santa María de Ordás, works that have been highly demanded by the residents of this neighbourhood, who have been requesting the renewal of these roads for years. With this action, we continue to make Seville a safer, more accessible, and passable city, both for drivers and pedestrians," said the Urban Planning delegate, Juan de la Rosa.
With this intervention, the streets of Santa María de Ordás join the nearly 180 kilometres of repaved roads in the city over the last three years as part of the Asphalt Improvement Plan, a municipal strategy that prioritises those roads that have gone the longest without maintenance.
This action in the neighbourhood is part of a package of six resurfacing operations that the City Council will carry out in the coming weeks as part of the improvements planned for the summer, for which 2.2 million euros have been allocated. Specifically, these six actions on the streets Santa María del Rocío, Santa María Magdalena, Santa María de la Hiedra, Santa María de los Reyes, Santa María de Ordás, Fray Luis de Granada, and Amalia Torrijos have a total cost of 257,000 euros.
The Macarena District currently concentrates other improvement works exceeding 700,000 euros in investment. Among them, the comprehensive reurbanisation of Artesanos Peluqueros street stands out, a key thoroughfare between San Juan de la Salle and avenida de Llanes, with a budget of 461,000 euros and an execution period of six months since its start on June 29. The work includes a complete reconfiguration of the roadway, with wider sidewalks, a reduction in the slope of the west sidewalk, renewal of sewage and supply networks, public lighting, and improvement of tree pits.
Works have also been completed, with an investment of 141,000 euros, on the streets Doctor Antonio Herrera Carmona, Abogado Rafael Medina, Niña de la Alfalfa, Marqués de Lozoya, and others in the La Carrasca neighbourhood, aimed at improving paving and sidewalks.
On September 10, improvement works began on Constantina street, focused on repairing the parking area between avenida Pino Montano and El Real de la Jara street, with a budget of 14,500 euros. The works on Avenida de Llanes are nearing completion, where more than twenty new parking spaces are being created in two sections of 42 and 44 metres in length, respectively, plus a third section on the opposite sidewalk, in the space previously occupied by a bus stop relocated a few months ago. This intervention has an investment of 45,000 euros and recovers a parking space that was eliminated 18 years ago.
In recent years, the City Council has also resurfaced avenida de Pino Montano in its section of the Macarena District, a road of nearly 700 metres that received new pavement after five days of work and an investment of over 140,000 euros. Other streets and avenues in the city already have renewed asphalt, such as San Juan de la Salle, Alcalde Manuel del Valle, La Barzola, Jara, Romero Petunia, Parque Miraflores, or Escultor Francisco Buiza. All these actions developed in the last year in the district amount to an investment close to one million euros.
Residents of Santa María de Ordás can check the details of the closures and alternative routes on the municipal website and on the information boards of the Urban Planning Department. The works will conclude, if the planned schedule is met, on October 2.
