Seville's City Council is conducting a commercial mission in Mexico this week to attract investments and present the city as an economic hub. Delegates Juan Bueno and Álvaro Pimentel are holding meetings with key organisations such as COMCE and CAMESCOM.
A delegation from Seville's City Council, led by the delegates for Finance, Juan Bueno, and Economy and Trade, Álvaro Pimentel, has been in Mexico this week to carry out a commercial and business mission. The aim is to position the capital of Seville as a competitive destination for investment and business establishment, as well as to strengthen institutional and economic ties with one of the most relevant markets in Ibero-America.
The director of the 'Seville Open for Business' office, Manuel Parejo, is also part of the delegation, which has already begun its work agenda in Mexico City. The scheduled meetings aim to attract investments, facilitate the arrival of new companies to Seville, and consolidate its position as one of the main economic and industrial hubs in southern Europe.
This initiative is part of the strategy of José Luis Sanz's government to intensify the international projection of the city and generate new opportunities for investment, economic activity, and employment. During the first day, the municipal delegation conveyed to Mexican interlocutors the strengths of Seville as a place to invest and develop high value-added projects.
The initial meetings have allowed for the identification of specific collaboration opportunities in areas such as business and supplier exchange, specialised training, the connection between industrial and aerospace ecosystems, and the channeling of future investment projects.
Meeting with COMCE
One of the first meetings took place with the Mexican Business Council for Foreign Trade, Investment and Technology (COMCE), one of the main business organisations in the country regarding internationalisation. The Seville delegation was received by the general director of COMCE, Susana Duque Roquero; the director for Europe and the Middle East, Pilar Piñeiro; and representatives of the Mexican business fabric, such as the general director of Swiss Time Group Mexico, Juan Pablo Cervantes.
Among the conclusions of this meeting are several lines of work for the coming months: the development of a joint map of industrial capacities and needs in the aerospace and automotive sectors, the promotion of training and professional exchange programmes between Mexico and Seville, participation in international fairs, and the leveraging of commercial potential with the Mexican region of Bajío, especially in the aerospace sector.
Meeting with CAMESCOM
Another significant meeting was held with the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Mexico (CAMESCOM), the main meeting point between Spanish companies, Mexican companies, and institutions linked to bilateral economic relations. The delegation was received by its president, Óscar García Zato; the general director, Elena Ochoa; and the manager of International Relations, Fernanda Ramos Alegría.
The representatives of the Seville City Council learned about the growing interest that Spain generates among Mexican companies in sectors such as legal, technology, and renewable energies. CAMESCOM, which has 630 member companies and is the largest binational chamber in Mexico by number of members, becomes a strategic ally to expand Seville's international presence and attract new investments.
Meeting with the Ministry of Economy of Mexico
The institutional agenda continued with a meeting at the Ministry of Economy of Mexico, where the delegation was received by Edgar Ciceño, head of the Economic Intelligence unit. The meeting focused on the opportunities that Seville offers as an aerospace hub in southern Europe, one of the three major references in the sector alongside Toulouse and Hamburg, within the framework of the Modernised Global Agreement between Mexico and the European Union.
The next meetings of this mission will continue on Wednesday in Mexico City and Thursday in Monterrey, with the aim of consolidating the contacts initiated and translating the detected interest into concrete projects for business establishment, economic cooperation, and investment that contribute to the growth of Seville and the creation of quality employment.
