The Seville City Council opens the application period for the Seniors Programme, with an investment of nearly five million euros and coverage for 3,300 people.

The Seville City Council has opened the application period for the Seniors Programme, an initiative aimed at promoting active ageing that will assist 3,300 seniors in the city. The programme, which was paused during the pandemic, was reactivated in 2025 and has a budget of 4,997,306.04 euros for the next two years.

The mayor of Seville, José Luis Sanz, has emphasised that recovering this programme was a commitment to a group that was neglected after the health crisis. "We are talking about an investment close to five million euros to support 3,300 Seville residents, to care for their physical and emotional well-being, and, especially, to reach out to those experiencing unwanted loneliness," he stated.

The offering includes more than 180 workshops on memory, emotional well-being, adapted gymnastics, and new technologies. It also covers topics such as self-esteem, emotional management, and laughter therapy. The activities take place in 14 Social Services Centres, Civic Centres, and social entities spread throughout the city, allowing each participant to attend those offered at their reference Centre.

In addition to the workshops, the programme includes activities for social interaction, excursions, and social thermalism. It also features a specific line for detecting and supporting individuals in situations of unwanted loneliness, a problem affecting many seniors in the capital of Seville.

Participants must be registered residents of Seville aged 60 or over, as well as those who are pensioners due to disability from the age of 55. Priority will be given to those with a recognised degree of dependency, those caring for a dependent person, and those who have applied for recognition of their dependency status. Each applicant can choose, in order of priority, up to a maximum of four workshops, one from each area.

The application period will be open from 7 to 25 September. Applications can be processed through the electronic headquarters of the City Council (www.sevilla.org), although the Social Services Centres have staff available to assist with completing the application in person during opening hours and without prior appointment. For any questions, citizens can visit their Social Services Centre or call 010, where they will be directed to the appropriate centre.
