The City Council of Lebrija and the Cultural Association for Historical Memory have renewed their agreement, with a contribution of 10,000 euros, to continue excavations in the cemetery.

The City Council of Lebrija and the Cultural Association for Historical Memory of Lebrija have renewed their collaboration agreement to continue the work of locating, delimiting, and acting on the mass graves of the Municipal Cemetery of Our Lady of Oliva.

The agreement, signed this Friday, 4 September 2026, at the mayor's office, includes a municipal contribution of 10,000 euros to fund the archaeological actions and the necessary technical documentation. It also includes outreach activities, such as workshops, exhibitions, or publications.

The renewal comes after recent campaigns have confirmed indications of several mass graves in the area. In 2026, the association has carried out eight new archaeological digs with the collaboration of the City Council and the Seville Provincial Council.

Additionally, last June, the work confirmed the existence of a new grave in the Pavilion of San Juan of the cemetery, a breakthrough in locating clandestine burials from the Francoist repression.

The agreement underscores the commitment of both entities to the recovery and dignification of the victims who disappeared during the Civil War and the dictatorship, as well as the right of their families to know the truth.
