Sevilla FC has secured the signing of Julio Díaz, left-back from Atlético de Madrid, after the player broke a verbal agreement he had with Levante UD. The 22-year-old footballer had committed to the Valencian side about a week ago, but the appearance of the Seville club at the final stage of the negotiation changed his plans.
According to sources close to the operation, Levante had closed the signing for one million euros for 50% of the player's rights, and was set to sign the contract this Monday for the next four seasons. However, on Saturday afternoon, the Granota board became aware that Sevilla was pursuing the player and decided to withdraw from the operation.
Levante tires of the snubs
This is not the first time Julio Díaz has hesitated. A week ago, the player had already delayed a decision for Levante to lean towards Elche, although he ultimately accepted the offer from Orriols. The patience of the Valencian club ran out after this second snub, and their sporting director informed the left-back's representative that they were withdrawing from the operation due to the notable lack of commitment.
Levante sources have indicated that “the project welcomes people who have no doubts”, making it clear that they do not want players who prioritise other options after reaching an agreement. The club is already working on other alternatives to strengthen the left-back position.
Sevilla, a desired destination
For Sevilla FC, the arrival of Julio Díaz represents a future reinforcement for the left flank. The Atlético de Madrid academy graduate, who was not getting minutes with the Colchonero team, has been monitored for months by the Nervionense sporting management. Julio Díaz will sign for four seasons and will join the pre-season under García Pimienta's orders.
