Historian Jesús Pozuelo will inaugurate the Velá de San Joaquín and Santa Ana this Tuesday at Altozano, with a special device from the City Council of Seville that will last until Sunday 26, the feast day of the saints.
The Triana neighbourhood will dress up to celebrate its Velá de San Joaquín y Santa Ana, one of the major festivals of the capital of Seville, starting this Tuesday. The City Council of Seville has activated a special municipal service plan that includes extended hours for terrace tables and a reinforcement of cultural and sports programming.
A historic proclamation at Altozano
The person opening the Velá will be historian Jesús Pozuelo, who will deliver the proclamation at the iconic Altozano. Pozuelo, closely linked to the neighbourhood, will review the history and traditions of Triana in an event expected to attract a large crowd.
This year, the festival features a notable new addition: a bullfighting exhibition organised by the Escuela Taurina Tomás Campuzano, which will take place on Wednesday in the pedestrian section of San Jacinto starting at 10:00 am. Fans of the art of Cúchares will be able to enjoy this free show.
Awards and fireworks
On Sunday at 10:00 pm, Altozano will once again be the epicentre of the Velá with the presentation of awards to the Trianeros de Honor. Among the honourees are guitarist Joselito Acedo, foreman Manuel Jesús Garduño Lara, Cuchillería Castilla, Juan Carlos Sánchez Rivero, the elder brother of Cachorro José Luis Aldea Carbajo, Carmen Coronado, and Esteban Romera Domínguez. All of them will receive the neighbourhood's affection for their contribution to Triana's identity.
Additionally, the Trianeros del Año will be named, this year including journalists José Antonio Rodríguez Benítez, the proclamation speaker for Seville's Holy Week 2026, and Alejandra Navarro González, deputy director of ABC de Sevilla. As Adoptive Trianeros, Jessica Brea Morillo, Sebas Amaya from bar Akela, and Lola de los Reyes will be distinguished.
The fireworks will provide a grand finale to the Velá on Sunday night, lighting up the sky over Triana. The City Council recommends attendees arrive early to enjoy all the events and respect the rules of coexistence.
Institutional and business recognitions
In the institutional section, the Instituto Vicente Aleixandre will receive an award, while the Business Trajectory award will go to Pipas Sevillanas. The ceramist Jesús Alcarazo will receive the Niculoso Pisano Award, and the Solidarity Award will go to Hogar Nazaret. Finally, the Special Distinction for Artistic Trajectory will be awarded to Cantores de Híspalis, who are celebrating 50 years on stage.
The Velá de Triana, which runs from Tuesday to Sunday 26, offers a programme full of activities for all audiences. The classic greased pole competition on the street Betis will be one of the most anticipated moments, along with musical performances and the booths. Neighbours and visitors will be able to enjoy local cuisine and the festive atmosphere that characterises this Seville neighbourhood.
