Sevilla FC's coach, Luis García Plaza, has sent a clear message to the board following the 1-0 defeat against KS Cracovia: the squad is insufficient and needs urgent reinforcements.
Sevilla FC raised alarms on Thursday after losing 1-0 to KS Cracovia in a friendly match held in Poland. The Seville coach, Luis García Plaza, did not hide his concern over the lack of players in the first team and called for movements in the transfer market.
"I am clear that this pre-season is going to be tough and complicated because right now we have very few first team players," the Madrid-born coach stated at a press conference. "There is still a month and a half left in the market, but we need to keep playing matches and preparing to grow."
The youth team steps up in Poland
The lack of professionals forced García Plaza to rely on Sevilla Atlético for much of the match. The young players from the reserve team took on responsibilities in a high-level setting, something the coach positively acknowledged.
"In the second half, it was practically Sevilla Atlético playing, as I say, because all the kids were out there, and I am delighted with them," he declared. "I am clear that the pre-season is going to be tough and difficult because the squad is still under construction. The boys are going to have to play a lot of minutes."
García Plaza's message is a direct warning to the Nervión board, which must expedite efforts to bring in players before the market closes on August 31. At least three or four signings are expected to complete a team aiming to compete in LaLiga and Europe.
Minute plan to avoid injuries
The coaching staff has designed a load strategy for the coming weeks aimed at managing efforts and preventing injuries. The plan includes that in the first match of the week, the groups play 45 minutes each, while in the second, the starters reach between 70 and 75 minutes.
"We cannot have those who should play 75 minutes also play the other match because there is a risk of muscle injury," García Plaza explained. "We need to keep accumulating work and rolling, with the goal set on Rayo Vallecano."
Sevilla FC's league debut is scheduled for the weekend of August 18, when they will host Rayo Vallecano at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán. Until then, the team will play several more friendlies to fine-tune their preparations.
The Sevilla fans, who filled the stands of the Polish stadium, chanted words of encouragement and trust that the board will heed the coach's request. The transfer market is now the focus of all eyes in Nervión.
