Real Betis goalkeeper Diego Conde had to be carried off on a stretcher this Saturday after a heavy fall in the 33rd minute of the friendly against Granada. The goalkeeper left the stadium with a sling on his left arm.
Real Betis Balompié faces the final stretch of pre-season with a new concern in the form of an injury. Goalkeeper Diego Conde, who has recently joined the verdiblanco squad, had to leave the pitch this Saturday during the friendly held at the Estadio Nuevo Los Cármenes against Granada, after a heavy fall that forced him to be substituted in the 33rd minute.
The incident occurred when Conde left the area to intercept a play and collided with his own teammate, defender Diego Llorente. The Madrid-born goalkeeper was thrown into the air and fell violently onto the pitch, prompting immediate medical attention. After being evaluated, the player was taken off the field and, according to club sources, left the facilities with a sling on his left arm, indicating a possible injury to his shoulder or collarbone.
Betis, who are immersed in preparations for the 2026-27 season, has not yet issued an official medical report, although it is expected that in the coming hours the player will undergo imaging tests to determine the exact extent of the injury. Uncertainty reigns in the dressing room, as the team has several preparatory commitments ahead of the league start.
Conde's substitute was Álvaro Valles, who performed without conceding any goals for the remainder of the match. At the end of the game, Valles himself referred to his teammate's mishap:
“I spoke with him, but I don’t know exactly what he has. He got hurt in the collision and we hope it’s nothing serious. It’s never pleasant to come on due to a teammate’s injury.”
This injury adds to the bad luck that has followed Betis in recent pre-seasons. Last year, Isco Alarcón suffered a fracture in his fibula during a friendly against Málaga, just before the start of LaLiga, which kept him out for several months. Although Conde's incident does not seem to be of the same severity, the club is cautiously awaiting the results of the medical tests.
Betis's schedule for the remainder of pre-season includes matches against Olympique de Lyon, Almería, Arsenal, and Bournemouth. The first official match of the season will be on August 21 against Real Sociedad at the Benito Villamarín, so the coaching staff, led by Manuel Pellegrini, hopes that Conde's injury is not long-term and that he will be available for the league start.
Meanwhile, the Betis fans are closely following the goalkeeper's recovery, who arrived this summer from Villarreal with the reputation of being one of the standout signings to strengthen the goalkeeping position. His absence in the upcoming friendlies could give minutes to Valles and youth player Fran Vieites, who are looking to earn a place in the rotation.
The club plans to issue an official statement in the coming hours, once the medical staff has conducted the necessary tests. In the meantime, the uncertainty about Diego Conde's condition remains, and Betis hopes that the pre-season bad luck does not become a burden for the start of the competition.
