The works at the historic school in Triana include the restoration of the courtyard facades, the renewal of walkways, and the complete painting of the centre, with an investment of €155,122.
The City Council of Seville has launched a comprehensive intervention at CEIP José María del Campo, located at Pagés del Corro street, 115, in the Triana District, to restore the building's original appearance and enhance its safety. The project, which has an investment of €155,122, will recover the colour that architect Aníbal González conceived for this 117-year-old centre.
The work focuses on the interior facades of the courtyard, where deteriorated layers of paint will be removed without touching the existing mortar, the base of the walls will be repaired, and lime paint, the appropriate material for this historic building, will be applied. Additionally, the poorly conditioned roof structure of the east facade gallery will be demolished and replaced with a new sandwich panel with polyurethane insulation.
Furthermore, the entire centre is being painted, and the walkways in the interior courtyard will be renewed, elements that have not seen this type of intervention for decades, as explained by the delegate for Education and Municipal Buildings, Blanca Gastalver. The municipal official emphasised that with this action, "we reinforce our commitment to the maintenance and improvement of public educational centres in the city, bringing them out of decades of neglect."
The intervention not only improves the aesthetics of the building but also strengthens the protection and insulation conditions of the galleries, contributing to the daily well-being of the educational community of the school, which uses these spaces every day.
Public Schools Recovery Plan
These works are part of the Public Schools Recovery Plan in Seville, which the City Council is implementing to reverse the accumulated deterioration in the city's educational centres. According to data provided by Gastalver, there are almost €5.8 million in ongoing works, €9.5 million in the drafting phase, nearly €9.8 million in completed actions, and over €950,000 in projects being processed.
The delegate recalled that in these three years, more than €25 million have been invested or are underway for the renewal of public schools. She also highlighted that there is an active maintenance contract worth €2.5 million, the most ambitious in the city's history, compared to the €300,000 that was available in the previous term.
"The schools of Seville are on the move, and the roadmap set to continue recovering these educational centres from decades of neglect is progressing," concluded Gastalver.
The works at CEIP José María del Campo are expected to be completed in the coming months, allowing the educational community to enjoy a renewed space faithful to its original design.
