The Utrera City Council celebrates International Tourism Day with open days at the Castle and Historic Halls during the weekend of 26 and 27 September.
The Castle of Utrera and the Historic Halls of the City Council will be the two spaces opening their doors next weekend in honour of International Tourism Day, which is commemorated on 27 September. The initiative, driven by the Utrera City Council, aims to bring local heritage closer to both residents and visitors who come to the town on those days.
The castle will be open for visits on Saturday 26 September from 11:00 to 14:00, while on Sunday 27 it will open in the afternoon, from 17:00 to 20:00. Meanwhile, the Historic Halls of the City Council will be accessible on Saturday afternoon, from 16:00 to 19:00, and on Sunday morning, from 11:00 to 14:00.
At both locations, attendees will have specialised tourist guides who will lead the tour and explain the historical details of each space, as reported by the Utrera City Council.
The celebration of this day comes after five years of transformation in Utrera's tourism model. In the last five years, the municipality has developed a Strategic Tourism Plan that has allowed for the organisation of the offer, digitalisation of services, and enhancement of the city's material and immaterial heritage. As a result of this work, the campaign “Utrera, a Journey of Art” has been consolidated, projecting the historical, flamenco, and monumental identity of the locality.
The impact of this strategy has been felt in the private sector. The increase in tourist accommodations, both hotel beds and homes, has facilitated overnight stays and allowed a shift from passing tourism to staying tourism, with a direct effect on local commerce and hospitality.
The day is complemented by an invitation to discover Utrera's gastronomy and, in particular, its traditional pastries, with mostachón as a hallmark. The open days will take place throughout the weekend in the two designated spaces.
