Seville City Council has been honoured by the Andalusian Federation of Municipalities and Provinces on Cooperating Persons Day. Delegate José Luis García advocates for the role of local governments in solidarity.
The Andalusian Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FAMP) has awarded the Seville City Council a recognition for its commitment to international development cooperation. The distinction is part of the event organised for Cooperating Persons Day.
The area delegate, José Luis García, was responsible for accepting the award and wanted to dedicate it to those working on the ground. “Receiving this recognition honours us, but it also commits us,” he stated during his speech.
“Behind development cooperation, there are not only administrations, projects or economic resources. There are people, entities, and professionals who dedicate their knowledge, their time, and often part of their lives to work for others,” he pointed out.
García highlighted the work of social entities and professionals who make cooperation possible. For the delegate, this recognition should be understood as a collective award to all the people and organisations involved, especially those operating in disadvantaged areas.
The councillor also asserted the role of local governments as fundamental actors in decentralised cooperation. “The responsibility of a public institution does not end at its territorial limits. We live in a deeply interconnected world, and therefore, solidarity cannot understand borders,” he defended.
“From the Seville City Council, we want to continue advancing and making cooperation a tool to transform realities and build a world where no one is left behind,” García concluded.
The event served to acknowledge the collaboration between administrations, non-governmental organisations, social entities, and universities. FAMP brings together the municipalities and provinces of Andalusia and promotes such distinctions to highlight the solidarity work of local institutions.
