The Sevillian bullfighter, who reappeared in May after a serious goring at La Maestranza, achieves a milestone by selling out the tickets for the port fair. The venue has hung its first 'No tickets available' sign for August 2.
Morante de la Puebla, from La Puebla del Río (Sevilla), continues to add milestones to his career. The 46-year-old bullfighter will be the absolute star of the bullfighting season in El Puerto de Santa María (Cádiz), participating in all four scheduled bullfights at the Plaza Real. This unprecedented event has led to a surge in demand for season tickets and entries, as confirmed by the venue's promoter, Carlos Zúñiga.
“The number of season ticket holders has skyrocketed compared to last year; it’s the summer fair,” Zúñiga told the newspaper El Mundo. The promoter acknowledged that the idea of having Morante in all four events was his at the end of the previous season, aiming to surpass the success of 2025.
The first 'No tickets available' sign has already been hung for the bullfight on August 2, where Morante will share the bill with Pablo Aguado and Andrés Roca Rey. “We are living a dream. Hopefully, the bullfighters will be comfortable, that no incidents occur, and that we witness memorable performances,” Zúñiga added.
The presence of the bullfighter from Cigarreras in El Puerto takes on special significance after the serious goring he suffered on April 20 at La Maestranza in Seville. That day, during the fight of his second bull, Morante received a goring of about 10 centimeters in the posterior anal margin that perforated his rectum, for which he underwent emergency surgery in the same venue with a very serious prognosis.
Against all odds, barely a month later, he announced his return to the ring, which materialised on May 15 at the Feria del Caballo in Jerez. Since then, his recovery has been rapid: on June 5, he was carried out on shoulders through the Puerta del Príncipe of La Maestranza for the third time in his career, after a performance that sparked madness in the streets of Seville.
Morante, who debuted with picadors in 1994 in the Sevillian town of Guillena, took his alternative in Burgos in 1997 and remains, three decades later, one of the bullfighters who stirs the most passion in Spain. His personal style and ability to connect with the audience have made him a mass phenomenon, as evidenced by the fact that he was also the first bullfighter to sell out the Feria de Huelva in just two hours.
The port season consists of four bullfights, all featuring Morante as the main attraction. Promoter Carlos Zúñiga has stated that the goal is for the bullfighters to feel comfortable and for no incidents to occur, wishing for “memorable performances” for the fans. Anticipation is at an all-time high, and the remaining tickets are expected to sell out in the coming days.
