The Municipal Nursery Schools of Los Palacios and Villafranca have started the school year with over 240 enrolments, according to the Education delegate.
The Municipal Nursery Schools of Los Palacios and Villafranca opened their doors this Thursday for the new school year with 244 children enrolled between the centres La Nana and La Luna del Horcajo. This figure, however, is expected to grow in the coming weeks with the addition of infants aged zero.
The municipal Education delegate, Florián Ramírez, visited both centres on the first day to see firsthand how the start of classes was progressing and to greet professionals, families, and students. Ramírez expressed his satisfaction with the launch, which took place "with much joy and total normality."
"It is a very exciting day, because the children are starting, those who were already here are returning, and new ones are also beginning to join," said the delegate.
The Education official highlighted that the centres are "fully equipped" and that the staff are prepared to face the term with guarantees. Regarding the evolution of enrolments, Ramírez indicated that the current figure will increase in the coming days, especially due to new admissions of infants aged zero.
"We expect even more enrolments, because due to the birth dates of some children, they cannot yet be formalised, and the number of students in the two nurseries will surely increase," he explained.
The Municipal Nursery School La Nana has around 140 students, according to its director, Pilar Benedito. The centre has 17 professionals, operates 15 classes, and has support staff available during the initial adaptation days.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Nursery School La Luna del Horcajo starts the term with approximately 104 children distributed across nine classrooms: two for infants aged zero, four for one-year-olds, and three for two-year-olds. Its director, María Parejo, detailed that the centre has 13 professionals including tutors and support staff.
Both schools maintain their usual hours, from 7:30 to 17:00, with morning classroom services, dining facilities, and afternoon classes. One of the main new features of this term is the free socio-educational care for children aged one and two, while complementary services can still be subsidised based on family income.
During the first days, the usual adaptation period takes place, especially aimed at students joining for the first time. Entry is gradual to help the little ones familiarise themselves with the centre, their educators, and their new classmates.
The Education delegate also emphasised the role of these schools in balancing family and work life, especially for families who need to combine childcare with their professional activities.
"Nowadays, it is essential to bring children to nursery school so that everyone can develop their work and also grow professionally," Ramírez indicated.
