The Town Hall of Los Palacios and Villafranca has organised an institutional reception for footballers Fabián Ruiz and Gavi, world champions with the Spanish National Team. The event will take place this Tuesday at 20:00 in the Plaza de Andalucía.
Los Palacios and Villafranca is preparing for a historic afternoon. The Town Hall has organised an institutional reception for footballers Fabián Ruiz Peña and Pablo Páez Gavira 'Gavi', newly crowned world champions following the Spanish National Team's victory over Argentina in the final held last Sunday in New York. The event will occur this Tuesday, July 21, at 20:00 in the Plaza de Andalucía, in front of the Town Hall.
Signing in the Book of Honour and greeting from the balcony
During the tribute, the municipal Corporation will welcome the two local heroes in the plenary hall, where they will sign in the Town Hall's Book of Honour. Afterwards, both footballers will step out onto the central balcony of the Town Hall to greet the gathered residents in the square. The Town Hall has called on all citizens to participate in this grand reception.
Additionally, the Association of Tomato Producers of Los Palacios, comprising the Town Hall, the cooperatives Las Nieves and Parque Norte, and the SAT Frupal, will present each champion with their weight in kilos of the traditional 'bombón colorao', the local tomato that is a hallmark of the municipality. A gesture that unites sport and agricultural tradition.
Two football fields to change names
The mayor of Los Palacios and Villafranca, Juan Manuel Valle, has announced the permanent recognitions that the Town Hall will dedicate to the three great football figures born in the municipality: Fabián Ruiz, Gavi, and Jesús Navas. The two municipal grass football fields will be renamed Fabián Ruiz Peña Football Field and Pablo Páez Gavira 'Gavi' Football Field, respectively. The municipal sports hall has already been named after Jesús Navas for several years.
Furthermore, the Town Hall will promote the construction of a monument dedicated to the three local champions, as a permanent symbol of the pride of the entire community. Valle highlighted that Fabián, Gavi, and Jesús Navas represent an exceptional case in football history: all three were born in Los Palacios and Villafranca, have defended the Spanish National Team's jersey together and separately, and have won international titles. Navas won the World Cup in 2010, while Fabián and Gavi achieved it in 2026. Additionally, all three shared victory in the UEFA Nations League.
A community united with its heroes
This Tuesday's event promises to be a large gathering. The residents of Los Palacios and Villafranca have been eagerly awaiting the return of their two champions. The Town Hall has requested that media outlets register in advance at the Municipal Sports Delegation, from 18:30 to 19:00, to access the plenary hall. Security will be tight, but the atmosphere will be festive.
For fans who cannot make it to the square, the event will be broadcast live through municipal channels. Those attending should bring some water: the temperatures in July in the Seville countryside can be unforgiving, but the excitement of seeing two sons of the town with the World Cup is well worth some time in the sun. Or, better said, in the shade of a balcony from which Fabián and Gavi will greet everyone.
