The Alcalá de Guadaíra City Council and the General Council of Brotherhoods and Cofradías are launching the II Cycle of Preventive Conservation, which will run until December with conferences, open days, and presentations of restorations.
The Alcalá de Guadaíra City Council and the General Council of Brotherhoods and Cofradías of the locality have presented the II Cycle of Preventive Conservation of Brotherhood Heritage, an initiative that will take place until December and aims to highlight religious art as part of the city's identity heritage.
The event will kick off on 25 September at the Salesian Chapel with a conference on the restoration process of the retablo of San Juan Bosco. The following day, 26 September, there will be an open day where the technical team will explain the work carried out.
The programme also includes the presentation of other interventions. Among them, the restoration of the altar base of the Virgen del Águila, the work on the paintings of the Cristo de Burgos and the Cristo de los Desamparados, and the work on the image of María Magdalena, created by Manuel Pineda Calderón.
Additionally, the work carried out on the step of San Juan Evangelista de Jesús Nazareno and on various elements of the retablo of the Immaculate Conception of the parish of Santiago will also be revealed.
The delegate for Culture, Heritage and Museums, Christopher Rivas, and the president of the Brotherhood Council, Enrique Ruiz Portillo, were responsible for presenting the cycle. Rivas explained that this initiative continues the municipal grants for the restoration of movable heritage assets belonging to brotherhoods, entities, or individuals.
“We have a significant shared commitment between institutions and brotherhoods to care for, protect, and share the artistic values of religious heritage as symbols of our identity, and this leads us to explain and highlight how this wealth is conserved to avoid major restorations.”
The delegate noted that these aids and outreach actions create synergies that benefit the entire population, not just the brotherhoods, as they energise the craft and restoration sector and allow for the display of pieces that are sometimes little known due to belonging to private collections or not being permanently exhibited.
For his part, Enrique Ruiz Portillo thanked the municipal support because, in his opinion, it values religious heritage and makes the brotherhoods feel recognised. He also emphasised the educational nature of the cycle, which will allow for visibility of restoration work and learning how to care for these assets through training provided by professionals.
