Lebrija was the venue this Friday for a high-level technical meeting between the State Society of Agricultural Infrastructures (SEIASA) and the irrigators' communities of Bajo Guadalquivir. The meeting, held in the locality, served to coordinate strategic actions regarding water resources and irrigation.
The event was chaired by the mayor of Lebrija, Pepe Barroso, and included the participation of the Government subdelegate in Seville, Francisco Toscano, and the president of SEIASA, Francisco Rodríguez. Representatives from the General Community of Users of Bajo Guadalquivir and the irrigators' communities of Sector B-XII of Bajo Guadalquivir, Bajo Guadalquivir, Las Marismas del Guadalquivir, Valdeojos-Hornillo, and El Toril and Quincena also attended.
During the meeting, various issues related to the planning of water resources were analysed, with special attention to the Balsa de Palmilla project, a key infrastructure to enhance the regulation and storage capacity of water for the agricultural sector of the region.
Irrigation is one of the main economic drivers of Bajo Guadalquivir, and for this reason, the meeting served to strengthen coordination between administrations and irrigators, as noted by the attendees. Institutional collaboration is considered essential to promote projects that ensure the sustainability and competitiveness of agricultural operations.
In the opening, the mayor of Lebrija highlighted the role of the agricultural sector in the local and regional economy and insisted on the need to continue investing in water infrastructure. “The countryside is one of the great economic engines of our region”, stated Barroso, who thanked the representatives of SEIASA and the irrigators' communities for their presence.

No specific deadlines have been announced, but sources from the meeting indicate that work will continue on the processing of the Balsa de Palmilla in upcoming meetings.
