The mayor of Osuna, Rosario Andújar, concluded the Municipal Swimming Courses this Monday, which have once again exceeded a thousand registrations during July and August.
The mayor of Osuna, Rosario Andújar, closed the Municipal Swimming Courses organised by the Sports Delegation on the evening of 31 August, an activity that has surpassed 1,000 registrations once again during the months of July and August.
The event, held at the Municipal Sports Centre, was also attended by the municipal sports delegate, Benito Eslava; the third deputy mayor, Manuel Rodríguez, and the delegate for Citizen Participation, Ana Lebrón.
During her speech, the mayor highlighted the consolidation of this summer initiative and its growth year after year. She noted that each summer the previous figure is surpassed and that, once again, the increase above a thousand participants has been confirmed.
“Every year we announce the figure and we do not expect it to be surpassed the following year, but once again, that increase of over a thousand registrations in the swimming courses has been consolidated”
Andújar appreciated that these figures reflect the satisfaction of the participants and their families, who trust in the work of the qualified instructors. She also referred to the excitement of the younger children when they surpass levels and achieve the dolphin category, an achievement she compared to winning an Olympic medal.
“These figures represent a great success and, although we do not intend to compare ourselves with other municipalities, here it has been a complete success and that means a lot: it means that the registered individuals have been satisfied, that the families have also felt satisfied, and that they have generated trust because they have entrusted us with their children”
The mayor highlighted the intense activity carried out at the Sports Centre throughout the summer, where, alongside swimming, football and multi-sport schools, football championships, and other activities have taken place. She also emphasised the participation of groups such as people with functional diversity, the TEA group, adults, seniors, and the aquagym group, which has gathered more than 100 daily participants.
Andújar acknowledged the efforts of the parents who accompany their children daily, as well as the families of the younger ones. She stated that the high participation demonstrates that the efforts of the City Council have received an excellent response from the community.
She also had words of praise for the local swimming team, which has achieved historic results in the Provincial Swimming Circuit of the Diputación de Sevilla, with 76 gold medals and more than 40 silver and as many bronze medals. The mayor praised the coaches, whose work has allowed for the consolidation of a growing team.
“Sport is part of personal growth and the integral development of individuals”
For his part, the sports delegate, Benito Eslava, expressed his satisfaction with the development of this edition and emphasised that more than a thousand people have participated in the courses. He recalled the tradition of Osuna families learning to swim and thanked the work of the instructors, whom he defined as true professionals for their demanding and rigorous approach.
Eslava also congratulated the swimming team for the more than 100 medals won during the season and expressed his desire for further successes in the provincial finals that will take place on 3 September.
The conclusion of the swimming courses coincided with the closure of other summer activities, such as football and multi-sport schools, which this year have incorporated a greater component of specialisation, with smaller groups for more specific work.
