The fire, caused by the burning of stubble on the Camino de Santa María, forced the evacuation of the Gines Plaza shopping centre. There were no injuries.
A fire declared on Thursday afternoon between the municipalities of Espartinas, Bormujos and Gines has completely incinerated three vehicles that were parked behind the Servialsa Industrial Estate. The fire originated in a grassy area behind the Gines Plaza Shopping Centre, on the Camino de Santa María.
According to initial reports, the fire was due to the burning of stubble and spread rapidly, reaching the cars, which have been completely destroyed. The smoke generated by the flames forced the evacuation of the shopping centre as a precautionary measure, although no personal injuries have been reported.
Four fire engines from the Provincial Fire Consortium were dispatched to the scene, along with officers from the Local Police of Espartinas and Gines and the Civil Guard. At 20:10, firefighters confirmed that the fire was under control and that only material damage was to be regretted.
The incident has generated considerable interest among local residents, who saw a column of smoke rising over the commercial area. Local authorities remind everyone of the importance of taking extra precautions with agricultural burns, especially during dry and windy periods.
