The San José Chess Club of La Rinconada now has a new board of directors. The electoral process opened after the departure of José Manuel Garrido has concluded with the election of Miguel Ángel Lucas Díaz as president, a name that had already been strongly mentioned in the weeks leading up to the closure of the procedure.
Lucas had previously held the position of Secretary of the entity, so his candidacy is interpreted within the club as a commitment to continue the work developed in recent years. In fact, part of the team that accompanied Garrido during his term remains in the governing bodies.
The transition began on August 20, when the Extraordinary Assembly certified the end of the previous board's term and set the procedure for electing the new one. Since then, a managing committee was formed and the various planned phases were covered, always with the aim, according to the entity, of respecting the statutes and deadlines with transparency.
The new board consists of José Miguel Piñero Fernández as vice president, José Luis de la Vega Álvarez as treasurer, José Tapia Campos as secretary, and members Alejandro Sánchez Mellado and José Antonio Cárcamo Tenorio.
The change in presidency comes after a decade in which the club has expanded its activities beyond competition. Garrido himself defended during his tenure that chess has a dimension that goes beyond a simple board game and sought to convey its values to various social spheres.
With the process now completed, the local entity faces a new cycle with the intention of maintaining its presence in the provincial and Andalusian circuits. The local chess scene in La Rinconada thus continues its game with a change in presidency that bets on continuity.
