The cyclist from La Rinconada, Loren Herrera, secures fourth place in the final qualifying event of the Gravel World Cup in Girona, confirming his status as the best Spanish rider in his category ahead of the World Championship in Australia.

The cyclist from La Rinconada, Loren Herrera, has concluded his participation in the final qualifying event of the Gravel World Cup with a fourth place finish at SeaOtter Europe, held in Girona. Herrera had already secured his spot for the World Championship since last March, so he approached this event as a way to acclimatise to the high competition pace and an opportunity to measure himself against a top-level field.

The Seville-born rider started strong: in the first climb of the day, he managed to break away solo and maintained the lead until the 28th kilometre, when the chasing group caught up with him. From the 60th kilometre onwards, physical issues sidelined him from the fight for the top positions, and he had to settle for contesting third and fourth places. In that final duel, his rival arrived fresher and took the third spot, leaving Herrera in fourth position.

Despite the fatigue, the rinconero was once again the best Spanish rider in his category, a result that strengthens his candidacy for the upcoming Gravel World Championship, which will take place on October 11 in Nannup (Australia). The Australian event will be the main objective of the season for Herrera, who arrives with qualification already secured and the experience of having competed at the highest level in the World Cup.

The performance in Girona confirms the progression of the cyclist from La Rinconada, who kept pace with the best for a good part of the race. The fourth place at SeaOtter Europe is his last test before travelling to Australia, where he will aim to improve his result and compete for medals.
