The La Rinconada Town Hall has completed the development of the Julia Palomo sector, an area of 5,200 square metres in the centre of the municipality. In the coming days, the contract will be signed to draft the project that will include 39 public housing units.
The urban core of La Rinconada has closed one of the pending actions in its historic centre. The development of the Julia Palomo sector, an area of 5,200 square metres located between Plaza de España and Carretera Nueva, has now been completed and the streets are perfectly defined. The works have involved an investment of nearly 450,000 euros.
The operation began with the purchase of the land by the La Rinconada Town Hall, which required an investment of 870,000 euros after reaching an agreement with the various owners. With the land now in municipal hands, the development was executed and work is now underway on drafting the terms of reference that will lead to the project, the bidding, and the execution of 39 official protected housing units, distributed over the ground floor and first floor.
The contract for drafting the project will be signed in the coming days, as confirmed by the Town Hall. The plots, which connect Carretera Nueva with Amargura Street, will also include open spaces for green areas closest to the bar El Rancho, utility land, and commercial premises in the extension of Carretera Nueva after the roundabout towards the Water Deposit.
The delegates for Territorial Planning, Francisco Manuel Díez, and Public Works, José Manuel Romero Campos, visited the area along with representatives from the local company Mediterránea de Obras to check the results of the works.
“These works complete a series of actions that began several years ago and have allowed for an unprecedented transformation of this population centre,” Díez stated.
For his part, Romero Campos highlighted that the Julia Palomo sector will have public housing units that will complement the 24 already delivered in the former Feria de La Rinconada and the plots for self-construction in that same area. In addition, there are more than 250 housing units delivered or planned in La Unión, along with commercial and green areas.
“It will provide a new boost to this population centre, which has undergone a comprehensive transformation in recent years,” affirmed the Public Works delegate.
The action in Julia Palomo completes a series of interventions that have modified the centre of La Rinconada in recent years. These include the remodeling of Avenida Francisco García de la Fuente, the completion of Avenida de La Unión, and the construction of facilities such as the new Library or the Peace Court. There has also been intervention in the historic centre to improve pedestrian mobility and accessibility, and in the commercial centre with the pedestrianization of Virgen de Gracia, the new Market Hall, the parking lot, and the Los Silos Civic Centre. A unique platform was executed on Manuel de Rodas and similar actions were taken on María Auxiliadora.
With the development completed, the next step is the signing of the project contract for the 39 public housing units, which will allow for the bidding and execution of the works. The residents of the area will thus see how the sector integrates into the urban fabric of the centre of La Rinconada, with new streets, green areas, and commercial premises.
