The Guillena Town Council cancels the night hiking route and observation of the eclipse and the Perseids scheduled for tomorrow, 12 August, due to smoke and ash from the Niebla fire.

The Tourism and Heritage Department of the Guillena Town Council has decided to suspend the hiking route and observation of the eclipse and the Perseids planned for tomorrow, 12 August. The cancellation is in response to recommendations from the INFOCA plan, a decision the council justifies out of caution and responsibility.

The main reason is the situation created by the fire declared in Niebla (Huelva). Although the fire is located far from the municipality and does not directly affect the area where the activity was planned, smoke and ash particles are reaching the surroundings of Guillena, significantly impairing the quality and visibility of the sky.

The activity aimed to enjoy the natural surroundings and observe the eclipse and the Perseids. Under the current conditions, the presence of smoke and ash prevents the experience for which it was organised from being enjoyed, so maintaining it would mean losing the sense and purpose of the activity.

Additionally, due to the fire, numerous Civil Protection, emergency, and healthcare resources are currently deployed to the affected area. Out of responsibility and prudence, and following the recommendations of emergency services, the Town Council considers it inappropriate to maintain an extraordinary activity that could require additional resources.

We regret any inconvenience this suspension may cause, especially to those who had registered, but we understand that this is the most responsible decision under the current circumstances, always prioritising safety.

The Tourism and Heritage Department thanks all participants for their understanding and hopes to resume this activity in the near future when conditions are suitable for enjoying it as planned. In the meantime, citizens are advised to stay alert to the official channels of the Town Council for future announcements.
