Seville City Council has terminated the contract to build a calisthenics park in San Jerónimo, valued at over €55,000, due to breaches by the awarded company. The Urban Planning Management initiated the resolution process after noting the contractor's absence at the signing of the Act of Replanteo.
The Urban Planning Management of Seville City Council declared this Tuesday the expiry of the contract resolution process for the construction of a calisthenics park in the San Jerónimo neighbourhood. The decision comes after the awarded company failed to attend the formal start of the works and did not respond to the Council's attempts to communicate.
A project worth over €55,000 that never started
The project, awarded in June 2025, included an investment of over €55,000 to install calisthenics sports equipment in San Jerónimo Park, in the area closest to Cataluña Street. The facilities would occupy an area of 12.5 by 50.5 metres and would replace the previous ones, which were in a state of abandonment.
According to municipal sources, the resolution process was initiated due to the contractor's absence at the signing of the Act of Replanteo, which is the formal start date of the works. Due to the lack of response to communication attempts, the procedure has expired without a resolution being issued, leading to the declaration of expiry.
The City Council announces a new procedure
The same sources have assured that the local government intends to initiate a new procedure to implement these calisthenics facilities in San Jerónimo Park. The Mayor of Seville, José Luis Sanz, had highlighted just over a year ago that the new facilities would be of top quality and in line with the best practices of this sport, aiming to enhance comfort for athletes and add value to this green lung of the city.
The news has generated discontent among the residents of San Jerónimo, who have been demanding sports facilities in the area for years. Many young people from the neighbourhood practice calisthenics in improvised parks or in facilities in other districts, and they see with frustration how the project is delayed once again.
A recurring problem in municipal management
This is not the first time a municipal project in Seville has been halted due to breaches by the contracted company. In recent years, several projects to improve parks and public spaces have suffered similar delays, leading the City Council to tighten the terms of conditions to avoid situations like this. However, the termination of the contract does not mean that the project is abandoned definitively, but rather opens the door to a new tender.
The Urban Planning Management is confident that the new procedure will be expedited as much as possible so that the residents of San Jerónimo can enjoy the calisthenics park as soon as possible. In the meantime, enthusiasts of this sport will have to continue seeking alternatives in other parts of the city.
