The City Council of Seville will activate a special device for the Velá de Santiago and Santa Ana next Tuesday, July 21, which will be held in Triana until the 26th. Historian Jesús Pozuelo will be the speaker and there will be a salon bullfighting exhibition as a novelty.
The Triana neighbourhood is preparing to experience one of its most emblematic events of the year. The Velá de Santiago and Santa Ana 2026, declared the Major Festival of the city, will begin on Tuesday, July 21 and will last until Sunday the 26th, the feast day of the saint. The City Council of Seville has designed a special municipal services device that includes security, mobility, and cleaning to ensure the smooth running of the events.
The starting signal will be given by the speech by historian Jesús Pozuelo, which will take place in Plaza del Altozano on the same July 21. From that moment, the programme will unfold with around thirty cultural, sporting, and recreational activities that will turn the streets of Triana into a hive of locals and visitors. Among the classic events is the Cucaña, which will be held every afternoon from 18:00 to 21:00 at the zapata of Calle Betis.
More culture and a bullfighting novelty
The organising committee, in coordination with the Triana District, has opted this year to enhance the cultural programme. Conferences, round tables, and exhibitions on the history, tradition, and personalities of the neighbourhood will take place throughout the week. The aim, according to municipal sources, is to spread the intangible heritage of Triana beyond the booths and fireworks.
As a major novelty, on Wednesday, July 26, Calle San Jacinto —in its pedestrian section— will host a salon bullfighting exhibition organised by the Tomás Campuzano Bullfighting School. The event will take place at 10:00 in the morning and promises to attract enthusiasts and curious onlookers. It is a nod to the bullfighting tradition of the neighbourhood, which has historically been the cradle of great bullfighting figures.
The Velá is a unique opportunity for Sevillians to rediscover Triana from its most festive and cultural side, with activities for all ages and tastes.
The grand finale will arrive on the 26th, the feast day of Santa Ana and San Joaquín, with the presentation of awards in Plaza del Altozano starting at 22:00. The Trianeros de Honor and Trianeros of the Year will be named, and institutions, entities, and associations linked to the neighbourhood will be recognised. The evening will culminate past midnight with the traditional fireworks over the Guadalquivir River.
Mobility device: road closures and direction changes
From 17:00 on July 21 until 6:00 on July 27, Phase II of the Special Mobility Plan will be activated. This year, the device will be affected by the paving works on Calle Castilla, in the stretch between Procurador and Callao. Drivers should pay special attention to the direction changes in the neighbourhood's streets.
Calle San Jorge will circulate towards Antillano Campos, and Calle Antillanos Campos will do so towards Pagés del Corro. Additionally, Calle Betis and Plaza del Altozano will remain as restricted traffic zones with different schedules for residents, loading and unloading, and access to the Triana Market car park. Accredited residents will be able to access from 6:00 to 17:00 on the 21st, and from 6:00 to 18:00 from the 22nd to the 26th of July.
Total traffic closures will occur from 17:00 on the 21st until 6:00 on the 22nd, and from 18:00 until 6:00 from the 22nd to the 26th of July, affecting streets such as Betis, Plaza del Altozano, Alfarería (from Covadonga to San Jacinto), Torrijos, Duarte, and Luis de Cuadra. The Isabel II bridge will also face restrictions: left turns from Paseo Colón and from Calle Arjona towards the bridge will be prohibited.
Parking and booth hours
Surface parking will also be affected. In Calle Betis and Plaza del Altozano, parking areas will be alternately designated for loading and unloading (from 6:00 to 13:30) and for pedestrian use during the Velá. Parking will be prohibited on Calle San Jorge from 17:00 on the 21st until the end of the festival. On Calle Pureza, the prohibition affects the sections between Arfián and number 35, and between Luis de Cuadra and Troya. Furthermore, the prohibition of parking motorcycles and mopeds in Barreduela Valladares and Calle Fabié is reinforced, as they are pedestrian zones.
The booths will open from 20:00 to 3:00, except on Thursday 23, Friday 24, and Saturday 25, when they will extend their closing time until 4:00. Half an hour before closing, the serving of drinks and music must cease. The Local Police and Firefighters have been working since last week on the installation of the necessary infrastructure to ensure safety.
For the residents of Triana and the rest of Seville, the Velá represents a showcase of the neighbourhood's identity. The City Council recommends checking the complete agenda and details of the awards on the municipal website. Those wishing to enjoy the festival without setbacks would do well to plan their journeys in advance and opt for public transport or pedestrian access.
