The City Council of Seville has invested nearly 500,000 euros to replace the artificial grass of the 28 padel courts managed by the IMD. The Sports delegate, María Tena, highlights that they now meet all quality and safety guarantees.
The City Council of Seville, through the Municipal Sports Institute (IMD), has completed the renovation of 100% of the municipal padel courts. This initiative has involved an investment of nearly 500,000 euros and has allowed for the replacement of the artificial grass on the 28 courts located throughout the city's neighbourhoods.
The Sports delegate, María Tena, explained that these facilities were in poor condition after years of neglect and lack of maintenance. In just three years, the municipal government has invested half a million euros to ensure that the people of Seville have safe and quality facilities in all areas.
"When we arrived at the City Council, we found that most sports facilities were in poor condition after years of neglect. In just 3 years, we have invested nearly 500,000 euros to renovate 100% of the municipal padel courts to provide the people of Seville with safe and quality facilities in all neighbourhoods."
The works have involved replacing the old carpets with state-of-the-art artificial grass carpet, in green or blue, made of textured polyethylene fibre that is resistant to UV rays. The marking of the playing lines has also been included according to the regulations of the Spanish Padel Federation (FEP).
To ensure safety, the porous concrete supports have been cleaned with high-pressure water, specific deformations have been repaired, and rounded silica aggregate has been added to prevent the movement of the carpet. These improvements aim to ensure sports practice in optimal conditions.
The renovation of the padel courts is part of a broader plan by the council to improve the city's sports infrastructure. The City Council of Seville is investing 21 million euros in the 24 directly managed sports centres, with 16 million initial and 5 million additional from budget modifications.
This investment has already allowed for the renovation of 100% of the padel courts, improvement of 80% of the football fields, work on pavilions and roofs, climate control of pools such as the one in Alcosa, and the opening of a new pool in Sevilla Este, in Entreflores. Additionally, state-of-the-art LED lighting has been installed in several facilities.
The municipal government is also allocating more than 3 million euros to agreements and subsidies for elite athletes and grassroots sports. With these actions, the residents of Seville will be able to use the padel courts in optimal conditions from now on.
