The City Council of Seville has presented ten new articulated hybrid buses that are joining the TUSSAM fleet, with an investment of 4.5 million euros. The vehicles improve the capacity, accessibility, and efficiency of public transport.
The mayor of Seville, José Luis Sanz, presented the ten new articulated hybrid buses that are already circulating through the streets of the city on Wednesday. The municipal investment amounts to 4,528,000 euros (plus VAT) and is part of the 2023-2027 Fleet Renewal Plan, the most ambitious in TUSSAM's history.
A leap in capacity and accessibility
The new vehicles, manufactured by MAN, measure 18.73 meters and feature hybrid technology using Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). They comply with the Euro VI E standard, the most stringent in the European Union. Each bus offers 40 seated places and capacity for 135 standing passengers, as well as two spaces reserved for users with reduced mobility.
Among the improvements are a continuous low floor, three accessible doors, a ramp for wheelchairs, a lateral tilt system to facilitate access from the pavement, and independent climate control for passengers and the driver. They also include cold air curtains at the doors, LED lighting, rear-view cameras, and tinted windows that enhance thermal comfort and energy efficiency.
“Every new bus we incorporate is a direct improvement for thousands of Sevillians. We are not just talking about renewing vehicles; we are talking about providing public transport with more capacity, more comfort, greater accessibility, and better features,” said José Luis Sanz during the presentation event.
Record ridership in the first half of 2026
The arrival of these buses coincides with a historic moment for TUSSAM. Between January and June 2026, the municipal company transported 48.5 million passengers, nearly 500,000 more than in the same period the previous year. This marks the best first half in the last 22 years.
“Citizens are backing with actions the commitment we have made from the municipal government since the beginning of the mandate,” the mayor emphasized. “When a City Council invests in a public service and improves its quality, users respond by using it more and more.”
For the City Council, these figures are not a coincidence, but the result of a sustained policy of investment and planning. The trust of Sevillians in TUSSAM is growing because they find a more modern network that meets their needs.
Fleet Renewal Plan: 172 buses by 2027
The ten vehicles presented today are part of the 2023-2027 Fleet Renewal Plan, which anticipates a total investment of over 52 million euros. The goal is to incorporate 172 new buses, which will allow for the renewal of nearly one third of the fleet and reduce the average age of the vehicles from eleven to seven years.
“We are building a TUSSAM prepared for the coming decades. Modernising public transport means improving the daily mobility of thousands of workers, students, elderly people, and families,” Sanz highlighted.
Furthermore, the modernisation process includes other actions, such as the electrification of the depots on Avenida de Andalucía, with an investment of 6.1 million euros for a 20 MW network that will supply future electric vehicles. The bus shelters of the TUSSAM network are also being completely renewed until 2034, and new lines have been launched to expand coverage in various neighbourhoods.
“Investing in mobility is investing in competitiveness, sustainability, cohesion between neighbourhoods, and quality of life for Sevillians. That commitment is what we are materialising with actions, investments, and results,” the mayor concluded.
The new buses are already operational on the city's busiest routes, improving the frequency and comfort of the service for regular users. Sevillians can check the TUSSAM website for the lines on which these vehicles will operate.
