The Mayor of Seville, José Luis Sanz, has supervised the comprehensive renovation works of the flooring in pavilions 1 and 3 of Fibes, a project worth 800,000 euros that is part of the largest modernisation plan for the venue in decades.
The City Council of Seville has initiated the comprehensive renewal of the technical flooring in pavilions 1 and 3 of the Palace of Exhibitions and Congresses (Fibes), a project valued at 800,000 euros that affects 14,400 square metres, 7,200 for each pavilion. Mayor José Luis Sanz visited the facilities on Monday to check the progress of the works that continue from the work carried out in pavilion 2 during 2024.
This intervention is part of a modernisation plan that mobilises 3,999,551.18 euros between 2025 and 2026, aiming to unify the quality standards of the entire venue and strengthen Seville's position as a European destination for congress tourism. The flooring works are complemented by other improvements planned for this year, such as the installation of automatic doors, the replacement of air curtains with high energy efficiency equipment, and the renewal of the flooring in the Main Auditorium.
Sanz highlighted during the visit that "Fibes had gone too many years without the investments needed for a venue of this nature. Today we are reversing that situation with actions, investments, and planning." The mayor insisted that the goal is to "definitively turn Fibes into the great reference Exhibition and Congress Palace of Southern Europe."
The plan started in 2025 on the occasion of the United Nations Summit held in Seville from June 30 to July 3. In that year, investments worth 1,057,019.25 euros were executed, fully funded by the City Council, which included the optimisation of electrical infrastructure, the renovation of two elevators, and the updating of the public address systems.
For 2026, the plan includes an investment of 2,942,531.93 euros (excluding VAT) which includes, in addition to the flooring, the re-waterproofing of the roofs of Fibes 2 (1,200,000 euros) and an intelligent video surveillance and capacity control system (377,491.93 euros). "Investing in Fibes is investing in the economic future of Seville," Sanz emphasised, recalling that congress tourism is one of the segments that generates the most wealth for the city.
The flooring works are being carried out while the venue maintains its usual activity, so the works are executed in phases to minimise disruptions for organisers and visitors. The City Council expects the renovation of the two pavilions to be completed in the coming months, leaving Fibes with a uniform flooring in the three main pavilions.
