The Mayor of Seville, José Luis Sanz, visited the new Endesa transformation centre in Playa de Punta Umbría square alongside local residents, which has eliminated electrical incidents in this area of the Macarena district.
The commissioning of the new Endesa transformation centre in Playa de Punta Umbría square, in the El Cerezo neighbourhood, has brought the electrical incidents that had been recorded in this area of the Macarena district down to zero. The infrastructure, which involved an investment of over half a million euros, includes two transformer machines of 630 kVA.
The Mayor of Seville, José Luis Sanz, visited the installation on Monday with local residents and recalled that this was a problem affecting the neighbourhood for decades. The project was executed in coordination with the City Council of Seville, which provided the necessary space for the infrastructure.
"Today we come to El Cerezo with good news for its residents: a problem that has been affecting the neighbourhood for decades finally has a solution. This new transformation centre means more capacity, more stability in the network and, above all, greater peace of mind for families and businesses in the area," Sanz highlighted.
The works included the channeling of 200 metres of trench to install over 1,100 metres of medium voltage cabling, along with an additional 3,000 metres of low voltage cabling that directly benefits Playa de Punta Umbría square and the streets Playa de Conil, Playa de Estepona, Playa de Mazagón, and Playa de Marbella.
According to data provided by the company, there are 627 customers with active supply contracts in this area of El Cerezo. The incidents recorded between April and December 2025 were 61; since the new facility became operational, none have occurred, representing a reduction of 100%.
The project also resolves the overload issues of the transformation centre located on Playa de Conil street. Now, this area of El Cerezo has energy capacity prepared to serve over 1,400 supplies.
The delegate of the Macarena district, María Tena, emphasised the joint work between the City Council and Endesa to resolve this historical problem. "An initiative that has improved the quality of life for all its residents and adds to the numerous joint actions that the council and Endesa are carrying out in all neighbourhoods of Seville," Tena noted.
This intervention is part of the agreement between the City Council of Seville and Endesa for the installation of 21 new transformation centres in the city. The council provides the spaces and the electricity company executes the network reinforcement works.
In recent weeks, Endesa has connected two other centres planned under this programme: one in Palmete, on Humilladero street, and another in Las Tres Mil Viviendas, on La Celestina street. The total actions will allow Seville to incorporate an additional power of 26,640 kVA, capacity equivalent to the supply of about 13,200 new customers or, as a reference, up to nine hospitals the size of the Virgen Macarena University Hospital.
The Mayor concluded by stating that "we will continue working neighbourhood by neighbourhood to improve the quality of life for the people of Seville. The goal is for actions like the one in El Cerezo to not be an exception, but part of a continued effort to modernise the infrastructure of our city."
