The City Council of Seville launches competitions in photography, poetry, and artistic crafts to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the wedding of Charles V and Isabel of Portugal, with a total prize fund of €15,000.
The City Council of Seville has announced three competitions — photography, poetry, and artistic crafts — to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the wedding of Charles V and Isabel of Portugal. The initiative aims to promote artistic and literary creation, encourage citizen participation, and disseminate the historical and heritage value of the Real Alcázar, the venue of that union.
The delegate for Finance, Juan Bueno, explained that these calls aim to bring the anniversary closer to all citizens. “We invite photographers, poets, and artisans to look with their own eyes at a date that is part of Seville's historical identity,” he stated. The total prize fund amounts to €15,000.
The photography competition, open to those over 18, will reward original and unpublished works related to Charles V, Isabel of Portugal, their wedding, and the historical and heritage context of the Real Alcázar. It offers a first prize of €3,000 and two mentions of €1,000.
The poetry contest, also for adults, accepts original and unpublished poems in Spanish, with a maximum length of fifty verses and themes related to the Imperial Wedding and the Real Alcázar. It distributes the same amount as the photography competition.
The artistic crafts competition, titled A Carnation for the Imperial Wedding, will select a carnation made using disciplines such as goldsmithing, embroidery, jewellery, ceramics, leather, forging, wood carving, painting, or sculpture. The single prize is €5,000 and both individuals and legal entities registered in the Crafts Registry of Andalusia may participate.
The rules will be published at the end of August in the Official Bulletin of the Province of Seville, on the Electronic Notice Board of the City Council, and on the Real Alcázar website. The deadline for submitting applications and works will be 30 calendar days from the publication of the extract of each call.
