The company FlixBus has launched two new international lines connecting Seville and Badajoz with three Portuguese tourist destinations: Porto, Aveiro and Coimbra. Tickets are already on sale from €9.49.
Seville travellers now have a new gateway to northern Portugal this summer. FlixBus has activated two routes that connect the Andalusian capital with Porto, Aveiro and Coimbra, with departures from the Plaza de Armas Bus Station and Seville Airport. The offer includes four daily services (two in each direction) and prices starting at €9.49.
Schedules and frequencies of the new connections
The daytime route departs from Seville at 11:15 hours from the airport, while the night service leaves at 23:45. In the opposite direction, departures from Porto's Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport are at 11:25 and 22:00. The journeys are direct, with no need for transfers, allowing arrival in Porto in less than eight hours, in Aveiro in less than seven, and in Coimbra in less than six.
In addition to the three main cities, the night line includes three new stops in FlixBus's Portuguese network: Vila Nova de Gaia, the third most populous city in Portugal; Portalegre, which previously had no connections from the company; and Sertã, a notable natural destination.
A sustainable and economical alternative for summer
With the summer season, FlixBus aims to offer an affordable and environmentally friendly travel option for Spanish tourists. Pablo Pastega, Vice President of FlixBus for Iberia and South America, pointed out that the potential of long-distance buses remains underutilised in Spain, especially in the domestic market. In this regard, he advocated for as a simple measure to improve the current state concession model at no cost, which would enhance connectivity and attract more passengers during peak demand periods.
“Cabotage would be a straightforward measure to improve the current state concession model at no cost. Furthermore, it would strengthen connectivity across the territory and help the bus attract more passengers, especially during peak tourist seasons,” Pastega explained.
For the Seville traveller, these routes open up the possibility of discovering three gems of Portuguese heritage: the historic centre of Porto, the University of Coimbra, and the moliceiro boat rides through the Aveiro lagoon. All this at an unbeatable starting price and the comfort of a direct bus.
How and where to buy tickets
Tickets are already available through the FlixBus app and website. Promotional fares start at €9.49, although they may vary depending on demand and how far in advance the purchase is made. The company recommends booking in advance, especially for the months of July and August, when tourist traffic is higher.
For Sevillians looking to make the most of the weekend or enjoy a different holiday, this new connection offers a real alternative to flying or driving, with the advantage of a reduced price and the ability to reach the heart of Portuguese cities without worrying about parking.
